John F Bardelis born March 12 1858 in Somerset county near Staystown Pa died August 11 1915 at Osceola Nebraska after a three day illness. He farmed taught school moved through Nebraska towns Staplehurst Coleridge Sutton Lut Osceola joining Lutheran Presbyterian and M E churches. Funeral service conducted by Rev EB Reed at the family home led to burial in Ulysses with music by local quartet.

On April 2 1918 William D Hgarne aged 18 bought a Twenty Payment Double Indemnity policy for 1000 from THE MIDWEST LIFE paying 25.42. He drowned July 12 1918 near Rule Missouri river and the company paid 2000 to his beneficiary. Almost half of THE MIDWEST LIFE policies include this double indemnity with 90 day injury rule. Extra premium is 3.00 yearly.

Death of Donald Allen Aunt and uncle mourn
Mr and Mrs W B Carson received news of the accidental death of their little nephew Donald Allen son of Dr and Mrs Fi A Allen. He fell from a car near Springfield Iowa and a rear wheel passed over his head killing him instantly. The body went to Winterset Wisconsin for burial beside Dr Allen's mother. Donald was five and described as a bright child. The heartbroken parents have sympathy from all in their sad afflictions. Also notes they have recently robbed six stores at Seward.

Robbery at Shelby Hits Thelen Brothers Drug Store
Thelen Brothers drug store in Shelby was robbed Saturday night after closing. Entry through the front door opened the safe yielding 101 dollars, plus 500 to 600 dollars in jewelry from E. W. Immerman. Discovery came eight o clock Sunday. no suspect identified. This marks the third robbery at their store in several years.
