Nebraska to Register All Irrigation Wells Under LB 577
Nebraska farmers must register all irrigation wells as required by Groundwater Management Act LB 577 which becomes effective August 23. The law strengthens penalties for unregistered wells and allows NRDs to issue cease and desist orders to stop water withdrawal from illegal wells. Existing unregistered wells should be registered promptly with no penalties yet assessed.

Administrator Will Attend Lutheran Society Meeting
Roger Haas of the Good Samaritan Center will attend the 52nd annual Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society meeting at Augustana College in Sioux Falls South Dakota from August 10 to 13. The Society began in 1922 in Arthur North Dakota and now operates over 170 facilities in 23 states with services in nursing homes hospitals mentally retarded centers and youth programs. The August convention will draw about 400 delegates including facility representatives board members and central office staff. The theme is The Good Samaritan Family.

Upper Big Blue NRD directors vote 11 to 3 to approve the 1976 budget of 762168 with a tax requirement of 332844 and a mill levy of .88. Directors Roy Stuhr Max Ronne and Robert Schneider opposed, after debate on administrative versus project expenditures and potential annual funding. An earlier motion to cut the levy to .75 failed 11 to 3 with same three directors in opposition.

Osceola Senior Girls Softball Close Season With All Star Game
Osceola high school senior girls softball wrapped their season Monday August 11 with a charity game against LaBelle All Stars. Coaches and players celebrated improvements and cooperation while parents served lunch. Earlier in July Osceola lost to Rising City by one run and fell 0-10 to Polk in a tournament at Ulysses. Coach Wright called the 1-7 record disappointing but showed progress and optimism for next season.
