Safety Patrol Quiz Session A
Q A can I go to a fire if I have business there A The law does not prohibit you from going to fires but there are some regulations relating to following a fire apparatus. You can not follow within 500 feet of a fire truck going to a fire. In this particular area where we have a volunteer fire depart ment I would say that those who are actually firemen going to a fire in their private autos would be considered a fire ap paratus. You are also required not to park within a block of where the fire trucks have stop ped in answer to a fire alarm. It is also illegal to drive into such an area. As a general rule Bees stay clear away so as not to bo ther those who are entrusted to this responsibility. Q Q can I put colored lights on the front of my car A A No, vehicle can be driven or moved on any public road with any red or green light vis ible directly to the front. This does not apply to police or fire department vehicles and as in the local case again this would apply to the personal cars of the volunteer firemen. Another sec tion of the law permits green lights to be used for front clear ance light. Amber is the color that is usually used for the front clearance light on trucks. When a vehicle approaches from the rear with a flashing red light, immediately turn your vehicle to the curb or off on the should er and let the vehicle go around. Let's give the local fire depart ment a chance to show their skills as soon as possible. Q What if I don't happen to see the fire truck coming A Be alert today and una shamed tomorrow.
