Chief Petty Officer Arthur B. Casuri of the Naval Recruiting Service visited Osceola last week and issued medals to local Navy veterans. Recipients included Henry Stuart Rexord Wagene Carman Hubert Russell Wesley Peterson Raymond Peterson Alec Mills and Lowell Hanson received the Victory Medal and American Defense Medal with Base Clasp. Casuri plans another Osceola visit Thursday to issue further awards.

Refrigerator fire damages Osceola home
Firemen responded to a refrigerator fire on the J. O. Pearson farm southeast of Osceola. A short in the refrigerator while the Hambeks were away burned a hole in the floor before firefighters arrived, but prompt action probably saved the home.

Veteran Stromsburg teacher dead at 78
Mrs. A. B. Hedbloom, 78, longtime Nebraska educator, died at her Stromsburg home after several months of illness. She taught starting 1890, led the Stromsburg Civic Improvement Club and the Polk County Federation of Women’s Clubs. Survived by daughters Hazel ie Hedbloom and Marjorie Kielson, and son A. L. Hedbloom. Services were held in Stromsburg on Saturday.

The 1867 move from Omaha to Lancaster, renamed Lincoln, set the stage for Nebraska’s capital. Barn Destroyed by Fire on Kroger Farm Near Polk
Fire early Monday destroyed the newly remodeled dairy barn on the Kroger farm near Polk owned by District Judge R. G. Kroger of Grand Island. Tenant Frank Ostrander was milking 23 cows when he discovered the blaze likely started by a pilot light in the hay loft filled with straw. Loss estimated in the thousands, part covered by insurance. A water pressure system and stalls had been installed less than a year ago.
