Nebraska Legislature Nears Adjournment Amid Staffing Jokes
The Nebraska legislature moves toward adjournment after a session marked by lighthearted jests from Sen. Jules Burbach and a push for new rules. Major actions include a contributory retirement for firemen in 27 first class cities, repeal of the full crew law for diesel trains, property tax and school land rental reforms, and tax system shifts relating to income taxes. Also reported are large IDA bond issues for an Iowa Beef Packers plant in Dakota City and interstate progress enabling 278 miles of Omaha to North Platte travel by year end.
