Fred Blau Returns to Osceola After 1894 Departure
Fred Blau, visiting from Lake Zurich Illinois, last week rode through Osceola with his niece Ruth Durham and friend Erna Hopke. He left Osceola in 1894 with his family after a barber shop fire and move to Indian Territory, later living in Missouri and Illinois. His sister Ottilie remained, became a teacher in District 68, and the 1895 graduation program and teacher's contract were brought to light.

Polk County Judge Reports Rising Convictions and Fines
A condensed summary from the Polk County Judge notes increasing criminal cases and penalties. In June and July 1960 there were 95 convictions, mainly traffic violations, producing $2,286 in fines plus court costs. First seven months fines total $6,050, versus $6,876 for all of 1959, with additional fees of $577.38 and inheritance tax $338.00, bringing the two month total to $3,201.38.
