Postal Inspector Batie visited Osceola to review post office affairs and potential new sites. Bids are closed with no firm decision. two offered sites plus Ryan’s offer to build a new structure south of the Osceola Bank are under government consideration. Citizens expect a modern building, with approval needed.
Misses Edna Branting and Marguerite Tenn take over the former Ida Hanson location in Osceola for a new ladies ready to wear and millinery shop. They plan a formal opening in weeks with a fresh stock of suits dresses and millinery. The pair bring experience from years with Miss Signe Samuelson and will clear remaining old stock to make way for the new line.
York man D. W. Killeen used spuriously issued checks in Osceola this week. He practiced small purchases then issued larger checks and took cash back. Sheriff VanHoosen retrieved him to Osceola. Judge Norton allowed him to cover the checks and he paid the costs.
D L Gross inspected Martin Jacobsen’s 480 acre field near Alliance and estimates 40 bushels per acre yielding 15000 bushels of Nebraska No 60 certified wheat for the year. This is Jacobsen’s first year growing certified seed and he will be the state's largest producer this season.
Shelby social notes list Irma and Marie Albers visiting the Edmund Bernt home plus Thelma Kuntzelman and Vivian Hill visiting Osceola relatives. Harvey Drum fractured his foot from a needle mishap. Dr. Smith attends. The deaths of Mrs Sally Ann Morris are noted with funeral in Shelby's Methodist Church and Graceland burial. Joseph Lux is reported quite sick.
The Maple Leaf Club met at Mrs Essiet Conklin's home on Thursday July 26 with 12 members and 8 visitors. Members voted to attend a picnic hosted by Hap oy Hour Island and Clear Creek Clubs. A luncheon was served and the group adjourned to meet with Mrs Sarah Finecy on August 5.
Methodist Church announces Rev F H Collier and the Winister story and song The Story of The Pink Rose by the young peoples choir next Sunday at 11 AM with devotional and inspirational content. The city of New York is cited as the factual background. No evening service next Sunday due to choir vacation.

Edwin Schott near Osceola demonstrates a twelve horse hitch to pull a five-bottom plow. He attached three four-horse teams, with Harvey McKeag supplying hitch equipment and F B Kelly aiding. Schott plans to use the setup for all his farming, noting the labor efficiency of such big teams.

The Osceola Realty Auction Company plans a public sale in Alliance Nesbr on August 17 offering eleven improved farms and ranches in 100 to 2080 acre tracts. The land suits alfalfa wheat potatoes and general farming. G M Burns Realty of Alliance acts as agent. Osceola Realty Auction Company reports over 400000 in sales this year and over 11000 acres booked for August and September. The Valley reports visits from Misses Anna and Frances Wachs of Omaha and Mrs. Joseph Schott's family. Mrs. Fred Dunn spent Wednesday with James Dunn Sr. in Osceola. Wheat yields vary with many fields damp and some hay stacked. oats also harvested. Local residents James Dunn, Julius Nebosis, August Senn and families hosted others from Creston, Columbus, Shelby, and nearby areas. Eva Dunn of Minneapolis visits the Valley this week.
The Record family joined Nebraska and southwestern Iowa colleagues for an Omaha summer outing. They toured Missouri Pacific belt line industries, rode the S S John Heckman to Florence for a picnic, heard Arthur J Weaver speak on Missouri river navigation, and concluded with a Chamber of Commerce breakfast.
Mr and Mrs F. C. Banks returned Friday to their Dorchester home after visiting Mr and Mrs F. C. Merrick, the latter's parents. The item notes Rayon Hose priced at 49 cents from Osz20la Dry Goods Co.

Chief Ed Lauermann chased a stolen Chevrolet touring car from York across Stromsburg into Shelby. The thief Wadlow Chapman was captured east of Shelby and turned over to York authorities. The vehicle belonged to Charles Brucy of York.
The wheat show linked to the August 17 harvest event offers prizes for the best peck samples of Polk County wheat this year. A long list of donors provides rewards ranging from trade units to posts, dishes, tools, and cash equivalents.
Dr. A J Edstrom escaping serious injuries after a Chrysler 50 overturned fifteen miles west of Omaha early Thursday. Officials suspect a blown tire caused the crash and he was taken to an Omaha hospital before returning to Stromsburg with friends. The wreck left the car beyond repair and prompted anxiety as rumors spread about the doctor’s whereabouts.

Miss Dorothea Dixon of Osceola married Roy Sall of Holdrege yesterday afternoon at the bride’s mother's home with Rev. Paul Melin officiating. The ceremony took place in a simply decorated living room. The couple will reside on the groom’s farm near Holdrege after August 20.
