The House adjourned at noon in respect for Trenmore Cone who died at his Valley home Tuesday morning. Cyrus Janicek of Bellwood stays with brother-in-law Roy Grossnicklaus family. Roy and family host relatives in Bellwood. Albert Schmoker hosts a Sunday family dinner. A baby boy born March 24 to John Augustyn Jr. of Loup City. Marie Prososki is his mother. Various locals visit in Abie Shelby Ellers hall hosts a big Easter crowd with Brainerd Pilsner orchestra. St Anne’s Altar Society plans May 2 gathering at Mrs Albert W Gabriel’s home. Mrs Mary Ziemba of Duncan dies. daughter Mrs John Cerny receives word.
Mrs. Carl Bryant and son Wil lam Hamilton were released. Mrs. D. W. Adair had major surgery assisted by Dr. Kennedy of Omaha and Dr. R. L. Schroeder. Dr. and Mrs. Howard Yates of Geneva welcomed a baby girl Sunday at Osceola Hospital. Ted White, pneumonia patient, returned home for convalescence. Roy Horst remains hospitalized for minor surgery with Dr. Schroeder as patient. Mrs. Delmar Johnson underwent major surgery Monday by Dr. Bell of York and Dr. Schroeder.
Easter Cantata Christ Victorious by Stromsburg Baptist Church choir highlighted the week. Community events include a Widga family reunion, visits by local residents, a seniors Sneak Day trip to Lincoln, and a death notice for Mrs. C. C. McCormick with funeral at Fairview Church.
The first in a series of bee demonstration meetings led by O S Bare extension entomologist will be held at the Henry Parker apiary in Stromsburg on Friday April 26 at 2 o clock. Parker lives near the square. The meetings aim to boost 1935 honey production by sharing first hand bee keeping methods. The event is free and open to all interested in bees. Nebraska allotment committees met in Sidney Kearney and Lincoln to plan a May referendum for wheat growers on a possible future contract. Attendees from this county included W A Carnine F H Brigham J E Renner and F B Kelly. The vote may occur late in May or a few days before May 25 with results guiding a two year contract proposal from 1936 to 1939 and possible continuation of the prior contract.
Polk County W C T U announces an all day institute at the U B Church in Shelby on Tuesday April 30 with devotionals programs by Mrs Huddleston and others, a luncheon, and afternoon talks by Rev E C Staley Rev E R Peterson and Mrs Harvey Nichols.
School District No 21 patrons observed Arbor Day at the school house on Monday afternoon. Twenty seven trees were furnished and planted by patrons. Miss Janet Nelson and her pupils presented a pleasing program at the close. About thirty attendees were present.
Shelby residents share visits and family gatherings with kin in Central City Rising City Columbus and Lincoln. Easter dinners and Dorcas Society events raise funds while CCC camp enlistment and a fiftieth wedding anniversary are noted among local families.
Communities on the West Side recount friendly visits and gatherings. Nels Holm and Wm Larson families hosted and visited others at various homes including C Qo Fredrickson and J Lind homes. Several guests from nearby towns joined in Easter weekend and birthday celebrations.
Easter Sunday drew capacity crowds at Osceola churches. The Methodist and Ord churches each reported 215 in Sunday School attendance, with Ord at 328 and Osceola at 327 in morning worship. Baptisms were performed for several children, and Rev. W H Wright delivered an Easter sermon. St Pauls Lutheran also held an Easter service with special music and a Sunday School Easter program.
Carl Bernhard Burgeson born February 9 1879 in Kungsbacka Sweden came to America in 1907 settling at Hastings later Osceola He married Dora Swan in 1915 and leaves wife three children Ruth Milton Doris three stepchildren Fred Carl and Mrs Helen Fusby in Stromsburg plus sisters and brothers in Sweden Funeral services were held at St Pauls Lutheran Osceola with Rev Paul Melin and burial followed.
Pastor Rev. Pengelly delivered a fine Easter sermon and baptized three. Neva Furness of Grand Island visited her sister Mrs. Franklin Williams after returning from California with her niece Janet Smith. Edward Adams of Humboldt joined Easter activities at the Williams home. The Schmoker family and Lena Schmoker and Alice Cook were hosted at an Easter dinner. Lawrence Davis visited from Humboldt with his family. The family later visited Margaret Stephenson of Gresham. Elaine Treadway is absent from school due to measles. James Treadway attended a Sunday School breakfast at the Methodist Parsonage in Shelby.
Mrs Susan K Robertson died at her Springfield Missouri home last Thursday April 18 after about five weeks illness. She is survived by son Kenn Robertson of Houston Texas and daughter Mrs Mae Schneider of Wakefield Nebraska. She lived with sister Mrs Bally Seaver, who also preceded her in death with brother David Blair at Osceola in 1934.
Miss Mabel Paben returns home from Lexington after several weeks. Mrs. R. L. Cox of Lincoln visits Polk friends. Mrs. C. W. Howley of Alliance visits her daughter’s family. Detloff and Rosemary Crow tour Lincoln to see Lucille Detloff. Myrtle Zuver and Herbert Krause visit Sundberg family. Easter Cantata by Baptist vested choir directed by Wilbur Whitacre. Beckman of Hastings aids care for aunt Mrs. G. A. Widge who fell. Hazel Larson and Grand Island visitors at parental home. Shad Stroup drives to Aurora to see Donald Hahn post‑operation. Henderson and Maxine spend weekend with Polk parents. York visitors Mrs. Harold Nelson and Mrs. Katie Marks of Ord. Weekend dinners with Kroger and Johnson families. Wilmetta Steel to Stromsburg for weekend with parents. Ruth Nelson visits parents in Polk. Westfalls visit in Polk. Steenbeck hosts at L. T. Worth home near Hampton. Wrights move to Lawrence Peterson property. Mills host at Shockey home. Williams visit Grand Island. Nea Gallant visits York.
The Senior Class presents A Hole-in-One at the Rivoli Theatre Thursday after noon and evening in May. The golf themed drama follows Wally Monroe who makes a hole in one on seven as Jack and Larry vie for Jane Harding.
