Carruthers Nominated to Seek Third Ontario Election

Alex Carruthers Progressive Conservative member for Durham in Ontario was nominated last Wednesday at Orono Town Hall to carry the party colors into a third provincial election. Nominated by Jack Reid and seconded by Donna Poole the former public school principal from Garden Hill Hope Township was unopposed. He thanked supporters and praised school boards and municipal officials for helping solve riding issues.

Gomme Speaks At P C Meeting In Orono Hall

Ontario Highway Minister George Gomme addressed the Progressive Conservative nomination meeting in Orono Town Hall on behalf of Alex Carruthers. He highlighted education, highways, and the Robarts government program including tax reform, legal aid, consumer protection, and subsidies for connecting links.

Nicholson, 0 Injured In Accident In Orono

Mr Ernie Nicholson 79 of Orono was seriously injured in a two car crash at Taunton Road and Orono Main Street around 8 PM. He is improving in Oshawa General Hospital ICU. Allan Forster 43 of Downsview was treated and released. Nicholson's car $1600 damage, Forster's car $1200+. Earlier incidents included bike crashes and a tree collision on Main Street with minor injuries and hospital treatments. Francis Dryden of the OPP investigated.

Three Advance Polls Open Ahead of October Election

Three advance polls will run for three days before the October 17 provincial election. Operating hours are 6 am to 5 pm and 7 pm to 10 pm on October 12 13 and 14. Voting points include Town Hall Bowmanville Port Hope and Orange Hall Millbrook with Durham electors able to vote at any site. Polls close with counts at 7 pm October 17.

Fire Causes Severe damage at Orono home

A Monday morning blaze at the home of Mr and Mrs Roy Patton on Church street Orono caused heavy damage to the kitchen and a second story bedroom. Firemen cut away kitchen wall and roof after smoke poured from the roof as crews battled the flames from a stove chimney origin.

Glen Rae Purchases Cedar Dale Dairy in Orono

Cedar Dale Dairy, based in Orono for nearly 38 years, was sold to Glen Rae Dairy of Bowmanville with changes effective Monday September 25. The firm began November 1, 1929, expanding from farm operations to pasteurization in 1940 and homogenization in 1954, later moving bottling to Taunton Road. Glen Rae now serves Bowmanville Newcastle and OromO areas.

Trustees Approve Garbage Remuneration in Orono

The Orono Trustees meet and approve a retroactive garbage removal payment of 220.00 dollars per month to begin May 1, 1967. They also authorize notifying OWRRC about drainage damage from water installation and seek cooperation. Approval was given for a storm sewer on Device Park and Church Streets. Hydro manager Downs discussed water service routes for Ozone Fuel and Lumber with McLaren preferences debated.

Portraits From The Past Colourful Spectacle at Clarke High

Clarke Township Centennial Committee hosted Portraits From The Past at Clarke High School to celebrate Women's Centennial activities in Ontario. The fashion show featured costumes from Canadian fabrics by Cel-Oil Fibres Ltd with period hats from Peggy Claire Hats and was modeled by local women and children. Notable participants included Miss Joan Bennett, Mrs. Thos Fairbrother, pianist Mrs. R. D. Morton, and Country Four quartet. Models ranged from Ethel Mailer to Jean Allin and Bonnie Reid, with Misses Heather McGill and Sally Staples as flag bearers concluding the program.
