Rally Sunday School Rally at Park Street Church
The notice invites the public to join a Sunday School rally on Sunday September 26 at 2 30 p m at Park Street Sund School. The event aims to support the good work of the Sunday School with a special programme.
Farmers may keep steel drums on farms under plan
Farmers may now keep steel drums containing gasoline oil or grease on their farms as long as they store their contents. The change is announced by S Godfrey Administrator of Used Goods. Previously farmers were requested to return drums after one month in their possession.

Sunday Afternoon Fire Destroys Part of Patterson Barn
A Sunday afternoon fire partially destroyed the hay mow area of Mr. EF E Patterson's barn on 1 Station Street, rented by Harold Hooey. Fire began in the hay mow around 1 15 p m and required two water tanks to extinguish. Two horses and one panty were inside. the horses were saved by Hooey and the car by Mrs Gibbs. The upper barn and roof suffered heavy damage. spontaneous combustion is suspected.

Mail Your Christmas Parcels Overseas By November 1st
The Orono Branch of the Red Cross urges early Christmas parcel mailing for Canada’s armed forces. A Victory Tea on Sept 30 funds and collects donations of aprons, crafts, produce, and farm goods for packing. Postmaster Mulock asks all, to mail by November 1st to ensure delivery, with strict packing, return addresses, and prohibition on inflammables.

Penwarden Dies At 82 In Clarke Township
Charles W. Penwarden died at his home in Clarke Township on Sunday September 5 at age 82. Born April 29 1861 in Port Hope he moved from Uxbridge after marriage to his Clarke farm. Surviving children include Hazel Cornish Morrish Mabel Tennant Stella and William. Funeral conducted by Rev S Littlewood on Sept 7 with pallbearers George McRoberts Wm Miller Harry Fraser Ernie Nicholson Earl Duval Wm Ruddell. burial at Orono Cemetery.

Decline in Male Teachers Across Eight Provinces
The number of male teachers in eight provinces excluding Quebec fell from 14 700 in 1989 to 12 600 in 1942 due to enlistments and higher paid work elsewhere. About 80 percent of the loss occurred in one room rural schools with younger lower paid teachers, data show.

Christmas Boxes for Boys Overseas Aid Drive
A local Red Cross branch seeks donations for Christmas boxes for the boys overseas. Drew Cabinet Extends Grain Subsidy For Ontario Farmers
Ontario farmers receive extended grain subsidy amid poor spring crops and delivery delays. The Drew Cabinet prolongs the $1.80 subsidy to Sept 30, with $1.20 in October and 90 cents in November, 60 cents in December, due to lagging Western grain deliveries and a 41 million bushel shortfall from 1942.
