Moss as guest of honour at Canadian Grand Prix Mosport

Stirling Moss, famed English driver, will attend the Canadian Grand Prix at Mosport on September 22 as guest of honour and honorary starter. Toronto restaurateur Sam Shopspewitz arranged his appearance after Moss recovery from a severe Easter Monday crash in England. Moss has not raced since then but remains a top figure in Grand Prix racing with fans in Canada.

Wolves Reported In Kendal Area

Timber wolves are said to have entered Kendal township attacking cattle. A north eastern farmer reports one cow killed while others sighted wolves, with some claiming timber wolves rather than brush wolves in the region. Cattle are being moved to protect stock.

Reid Couple Celebrates 25th Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Wm E Reid marked twenty five years of marriage with a Friday evening gathering at their home. Friends viewed slides of local weddings and trips. Myrtle and Bill Reid spoke, a purse of money was presented, and guests shared lunch together.

Everett Brown 25th Anniversary Celebrated in Orono

Mr and Mrs Everett Brown observed their 25th wedding anniversary at Oddfellow s Hall Orono with about 150 relatives and friends. Attendants from the original wedding, gifts presented, remarks by several guests, music by Carlos Tamblyn and others, a lunch, cake cutting, and a dance followed the reception. Guests came from multiple towns including Newcastle Bowmanville Peterborough Oshawa Lindsay and Toronto. Special visitors included newlyweds Mr and Mrs Morley Lake.

Orono Rink Considers Additions For Winter Use

The Orono Amateur Athletic Association weighs adding a large new room at the Orono Rink in the northwest corner for refreshments and spectators. A committee of H Best and H Partner will study the plan and seek Fair Board approval while aiming to keep costs around 100 to 1200 with possible volunteer labor.

The Lone Star State fields three cars for the September 22 Canadian Grand Prix at Mosport. Orono Drama Awards and Sabin Clinic Update

Health Unit temporarily halts oral Sabin clinics in counties. Orono Drama Festival awards, donated pottery and a carved statuette by Gerd Unterman, are displayed in Bowmanville then Orono with a new perpetual Best Play plaque. Showdown entrants include Al Pease in Lotus 23 and Jim Muzzin in Porsche RSK, with Americans joining the field.

The August report shows 31 communicable disease cases including 18 whooping cough and 7 salmonella. Two rabid cats were reported in Hamilton Township and 65 children vaccinated for smallpox with 20 revaccinations. 560 chest X rays completed this year per 4 clinics. 18 August staff changes, 819 families visited, and 15 public health nurses plus supervision serving 80 000. Orenio Public School Introduces Oral French for Fifth Grade

Orenio Public School introduces Oral French for Grade 5 with weekly sessions taught by Miss Pemberson. The course is experimental, has no tests or impact on grades, and focuses on speaking with basic vocabulary. Higher grades 6 7 and 8 may attend optional sessions after classes.

Bruce Myles of Orono moves to open a donut bakery supplying Honi-dip and Jelly Donuts along with Honey Buns. The venture includes a Watts Donut franchise with distribution from Oshawa to Cobourg and Bewdsey, using one delivery truck.

Joint Service For M and M Fund In Orono United Church

Orono Kirby and Leskard congregations plan a joint service at Orono United Church on Sunday evening September 28 at 7 30 p m. The United Church Women sponsor for the M and M Committee with James Rickaby leading assisted by Basil Long and Norman Bairstow. Polio Clinic Postponed Across Northumberland Durham Region

The Northumberland Durham Health Unit delayed next month’s Sabin polio clinics after a national advisory group linked four paralytic cases to the Sabin vaccine. Dr. Charlotte Horner said no cases were in United Counties and urged continued Salk vaccination while noting the delay won’t nullify prior protection. Ontario ordered halt of Sabin vaccine outlets and tests will determine if infections came from Sabin or wild virus.

Two Injured in Separate Collisions Near Lindsay and Pontypool

Bruce Myles suffers cuts and fractures after an Alto crash near Pontypool and is hospitalized for observation. Diane Smith, 16, is in fair condition after a head on crash on Highway 35 south of Lindsay with Gary De Geer and a northbound truck driven by Wellington McKee.
