At a recent Orono Chamber meeting Mr. Emery urged the community to attract industry to Ontario, noting 113 new plants in 1961 and 60 000 annual jobs needed. He urged formation of an Industrial promotion committee and praised Lake Ontario Development Association for aiding site studies. The group also discussed supporting local booths at the Orono Fair and a $25 grant to the Orono Players for a Drama Festival.

Montreal driver John Cannon won the Mosport Park Indian Summer Trophy in a Mark I Daily-Bardahl Special after 25 laps at 89.06 mph. Francis Bradley finished second in a Lotus 19 Whiz Special, gaining seven points to lead the Canadian Sports Car Drivers Championship with 38, while Ludwig Heimrath sits third with 37. The event drew about 3000 fans and featured a mix of modified sports cars formula juniors touring cars and motorcycles.

Kenneth Hall, 58, a wartime land commander with A Company Midland Regiment, died in Toronto hospital. The Orono Fair drew about 6000 attendees, surpassing 1961 records, with 4-H events, heavy horse shows, poultry displays, and a popular amateur show. Hall is survived by his wife Helen Howard and daughter Elizabeth. funeral held in Orono United Church.

Committees were set for the Nurses dance at the Lions Centre in October. Mrs. Evans and group led the social part a corn roast with hot corn rolls marshmallows and coffee around an open bonfire. Mrs. H Peters won best decorated hat for the corn roast creation was a deep fry basket with rhubarb leaves and garden vegetables. Mrs. J Martin won the lucky draw number.

Grono Park Revenue Rises Over 1961 Total
The Grono Park Board met Tuesday to review a year end financial report for August. Revenue rose by 240.00 over 1961, led by the swimming pool netting 1 327.08 after lifeguards and tickets. Total revenue reached 1 908.93 and bank balance stood at 881.56 with about 800 in bills to pay.

Science displays aided the Orono Fair in being one of the best in the area this year. Saturday evening featured a new amateur show promotion that drew a warm reception. Fireworks closed the 1963 fair along with a final ride down the midway.
Castleton Girl Crowned Tobacco Queen At Orono Fair
Friday evening at the Orono Fair tobacco contests crowned the Tobacco Queen and King. Miss Mary Snowdy of Castleton was named Tobacco Queen while Miss Betty May and Miss Emmy Scholtes tied for third in a separate judging. Clarence Moore earned a second place trophy for Sand Leaves and Glen Atkins won for cutter leaf and stick. The tobacco tying contest featured teams from Grafton and Kendal with a tied outcome between two growers.
