The Orono Fire Department was dispatched Saturday afternoon to Dr. R. J. Taggart's estate where a mattress in a garage caught fire. Firefighters found the blaze under control upon arrival with no damage to the building, believed caused by children playing with matches. a fire extinguisher quickly put out the flames.

False alarm over Christmas tree fire near Rolph farm
A report of a Christmas tree fire at the Rolph farm proved false though a blaze did occur on the neighboring Hofford property on the eighth concession.
