Death of Melville Staples Crone Elates Orono Community
Melville Staples Crone dies suddenly at home October 16. Born 1886 in Cavan, he earned advanced degrees in Toronto and Knox College, worked in Ontario government bonds, served as Educational Secretary of the U F O, and steered Ganaraska Conservation Authority efforts. Survived by widow Muriel Penfound Staples, son Donald, two daughters Carol and Anna, and two sisters. Funeral held October 19 at Orono United Church with burial in Bowmanville.

Orono Athletic Association Draws, Basketball Game Report
The Orono Athletic Association held its annual meeting in the Orono Municipal Building with adults and youths attending. A south end basketball team led by captain Raye West beat the north end 25 23 led by Ross Gilbert, as draws paid prizes to Frasier Wallace Arnold Wallace Ross Gilbert and Mary Lynn Bailey. The group faced a near $100 deficit due to weak play and reduced auction revenue, with last year's rink deficit at $615.34 and total expenditures over $1800. Officers were named: President Horace J. Best, Vice President Ken Nixon, Secretary Mrs Marvin Lunn, Treasurer Harvey partner. Fourteen directors were appointed.
