Orono Girl Guides seek furniture and equipment as they move into the hall formerly used by the Masons. The Local Association appeals to citizens for donations while inviting the public to a December 1 opening supper at the Orange Hall raising funds for the guides.

Cynthia Maude Weatherill wife of Lawrence David Bell died October 21 1945 at Kendal in her 60th year. Funeral at her residence October 24 at 2 pm with interment in Orono Cemetery. J D Brown won first in the Plowing match for best turnout and second in the amateur plowing contest.

Installation of Officers of Orono Lodge No 456
Officers of Orono Lodge No. 456 of the Independent Order of Oddfellows were installed on October 17 in Orono with District Deputy Grand Master Howard Cowle presiding. The ceremony honored Bro. Mrs. G Earnest Forbes editor of the Missionary Monthly spoke at St Paul s Bowmanville on October 18 outlining the themes of a W M S crusade. She emphasized Christ light in darkness and urged personal dedication and outreach to two million nominal United Church members. Miss Luella Rorke discussed Japan mission prospects and the need to counter atomic fears with church led peace. Trinidad and education efforts were highlighted with regional church schools and mosques influence noted. The event featured multiple church leaders and a plan for delegations to engage the Church of Japan.
