The Prices Board ends wartime limits on evening dresses and skirts, allowing bridesmaids gowns and dinner dresses to return to the market. Since 1942 gowns were capped at 144 inches plus white and cream colors with brides trains under 50 inches. Long gowns remain restricted by fabric and production factors. prices will be controlled by ceilings.

Earl Spry was home for Sunday. Mr and Mrs Clare Martin and family visited Mrs Martin's sister in Toronto. Floyd Nicholson has his discharge from the RCAF and is home helping his father at the mill. Mrs Cole's granddaughter and family have been visiting for two weeks. Mrs Van Wart left for Toronto Sunday. Church service will be at 3 PM this Sunday and then every second Sunday in the fall. Ronnie Page beat David Fee by two points in Public School Speaking Contest. Our Clarke Township entry won first prize in Orono last Friday night. Ronnie's Radar topic keeps him in the running for the next Durham County contest.

The Durham County Plowing Match held October 23 at Gordon Kellogg’s Hope Township farm drew 150 to 200 spectators in cold weather. Eighteen contestants won in classes 1 through 10 with prizes including the Salada Tea Special and Eaton Special for youth and best land work, plus a best turnout award.
