Orono seeks voter approval to buy hydro system

The Village of Orono trustees unanimously propose purchasing the hydro electric power system to operate at cost for residents. They cite 1982 to 1937 financial data showing profits can retire system debt in six years and promise full disclosure of revenues costs and net profits in the press next week.

Child Runs Over Twice By Vehicle At Belleville Beach

A 23 month old child of Mr and Mrs Ambrose MacDonald of Denbigh was accidentally run over twice by a car driven by his mother near Belleville Beach. The car rolled forward trapping the child under the front wheel after the mother claimed she did not know the car was in gear. The child remained in hospital in critical condition.

William Jones Dies at 82 in Newtonville Community

William Dudley Jones a Newtonville resident died in Port Hope Hospital on Tuesday Sept 27 in his 83rd year after a long illness. He lived on his birth lot, worked as a butcher in Orono Newcastle Gainsboro and West in a drover business shipping stock, then retired in Newtonville. He is survived by second wife Mary Janet MacGregor son MacGregor a daughter Bertha and two granddaughters. Funeral Friday at Newtonville Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev W G Blake with pallbearers Arthur McKay Cecil Robinson Dave Denault Robert Nesbitt Fred Nesbitt Joseph Sexsmith.

Clarke Township Police Village of Orono authorizes buying the Orono Electric System for 8128.40 plus capital costs and issuing 8000 debentures at 4 3 4 percent interest, repaid over ten years from system revenue with yearly installments and potential special rates if needed.

Sherbrooke Man Missing After Short Ride Before Dinner
