Liberal Candidate Russell Honey Nominated in Durham Riding

The Durham County Liberal Association chose Russell Honey of Port Hope to contest the next federal election. At a Newcastle meeting hosted by We the Community Hall and attended by about five hundred, Honey pledged dedication to winning Durham for the Liberals and urged continued support from local Liberals, arguing for a Liberal government in Ottawa.

W.MLS Group 1 Meets at Mrs. Dean Home

The regular meeting of Group 1 of the W.M.L.S. was held at Mrs. Hesper Dean's home on Tuesday October 3 with Mrs. Armstrong in charge in the absence of President Mrs. Lone. Prayer scripture singing and a message followed. A Thankoffering meeting is set for November 1 at 2 30 pm with Mrs. Ferguson as guest speaker invites to nearby auxiliaries. A sewing project was packed for Mrs. Tong and a social hour with lunch concluded the gathering.

Canadian race prodigy wins Mosport Grand Prix at 21

Young Canadian Peter Ryan from Mont Tremblant, Quebec, aged 21, captures Canada's first sports Grand Prix at Mosport. He drives a Lotus Monte Carlo to a 2 hours 46 minutes plus 44 seconds victory, defeating favorites Stirling Moss and Olivier Gendebien who finish second and third respectively.

Orono Drama Festival Honors Knox Litle Theatre Group

The Knox Little Theatre Group of Peterborough won the Orono Drama Festival for the third year with The Anniversary by Anton Chekhov. Oshawa Little Theatre took best actor director and actress for Spy. Barbara Lloyd and Harry Chapman won acting plaques. Miss Gillian Heath received best director.

Rally Day for United Church Sunday School

Rally day events invite children and youth to meet Sun day School teachers and pupils during a brief graduation ceremony after the first hymn in the morning service. Sunday School meets at 10 oclock with each class dismissed by 11 oclock during the Ul iped Service.

Junior Gardeners Hold First Meeting

The Junior Gardener's Club resumed with a September meeting at the Community Centre Guide Room. Mrs Fairbrother showed three fall table arrangements using grasses greens and autumn colors.

Orono Pool Receipts and Debts Highlight Park Board Report

The Park Board heard Alma Cuttell report on the Orono swimming pool season finances for thirteen weeks from mid June to September 16. Receipts totaled 1981.77 with 1305.77 from admissions and 676.00 from season tickets. costs 842.44 for ticket takers and lifeguards leaving a 1139.33 surplus, though maintenance and operating costs remain unaccounted.
