A meeting of the Orono Amateur Athletic Association was held with about ten members present. Officers were to be elected at the next meeting on Tuesday October 7 at the Orange Lodge. The association supports girls figure skating hockey badminton football hardball and softball and has $25 in bank.

Driver Killed As Team Takes Flight on Farm Road
Mrs. Wilbert Fallis died on her father's farm when the team of horses panicked and threw her from the wagon. She was struck over the heart after leaping a rail fence and crossing a ditch. Her two daughters Betty and Ruth were aboard but survived the incident.

Three Bandits Sentenced to 17 Years for Oshawa Taxi Robbery
Three men Raymond LaFrance Robert Thomlinson and Bruce May appeared before Magistrate F Ebbs in Oshawa Police Court and received a combined 17 year prison term. LaFrance 18 Thomlinson 19 and May 17 pleaded guilty to armed robbery of Austin Bennett whose taxi was seized on September 28 near Newcastle.

In bright cool weather on September 26, Orono Continuation School held a two-team field meet. Blues captains Kay Gamsby and Mervyn Harness led the winners, with Kay Gamsby named Senior Girl and Mervyn Harness Senior Boy among the top honors. Relay Race went to Blues. several events list Kay Gamsby and Shirley Flintoff among top place getters across running, jumping, discus, and baseball activities.

The Achievement Day program at Orono Fair saw 24 calves exhibited in the South Durham Beef and Dairy Calf Club. Top Holstein finishers included Marion Tink first in the class, with a strong showing by Orville Hindman and Walter Tink among others. Durham County will be represented at Guelph on October 25 by Orville Hindman and Wm. Rundle as the Orono Fair prize fund is noted.
