Orono Park Renovation Plans Advance This Fall
Orono Park Board plans renovation this fall after choosing a local contractor. A bulldozer will move sixteen yards per pass and two days are needed to complete the work. The board leased seventy five feet of land from Mr McGhee for ninety nine years to extend the park and improve the east bank hillside. Grass seeding will follow resurfacing to ready the grounds for hardball and football next summer.

Oshawa Taxi Driver Kidnapped and Robbed East of Newcastle
Austin Bennett of Oshawa, driver for Mid-Town Taxi Co., was abducted at gunpoint near King Street, driven to a rural road, robbed of 65 dollars, and dumped restrained. Three men were arrested in Ottawa a day later. the stolen 1946 blue Midtown Taxi sedan was recovered. Bennett aided by a farmhouse call and police from Bowmanville, Oshawa, and Ottawa coordinated the investigation.

Death of Holstein breeder after farm blasting near Oshawa
R Ray McLaughlin renowned Holstein breeder and son of George W McLaughlin died in Oshawa General Hospital from injuries after a dynamite charge exploded while he placed it under a rock on his Tyrone farm. He directed foreman Clifford Hagarty to retreat moments before the blast. Born December 13 1895 in Oshawa he built Wimcroft and later managed McLaughlin and Son. He led Ontario cattle breeding, chaired Woolstein-Friesian Canada, and won the 1946 Royal Winter Fair Grand Championship with Winlow Proprietor. Survived by widow Marjorie Tsobel Ennis and seven children. Funeral Friday September 26 at Elmcroft Farm Oshawa. Interment Oshawa Union Cemetery.
