The Cobourg event opens October 6 with over 200 exhibitors and vast plots. Province teams from Ontario Quebec and more enter Canadian class. Northumberland Durham and area prepare traffic parking and billeting for an estimated 150 000 visitors.
The Orono Orphans Hockey Club met at Orange Hall with fifteen players and ten adults to plan the coming season. Officers announced, home games assigned to Port Hope ice, Carnival plans set for October 16 in the Orono Arena, and sweater funding discussed with possible Merchants sponsorship.
Dawn Marie Moffat wed Keith George Hall Finnie in Orono in a fall wedding officiated by Rev. Hustee of Pembroke. The bride wore a white lace satin gown with a lace jacket, veil, and strand pearl necklace. attendants wore turquoise and the reception followed at the bride’s home. The couple will reside on the groom’s South Monaghan farm after a western wedding trip.
Rev Bishop Wells delivered a simple address on Canada’s harvest abundance at St Saviour's Harvest Home Service in Orono. Perrytown Anglican Church provided music for Evensong and the reception in the Parish Hall allowed members to meet the bishop.
The Ganaraska River Conservation Authority approved steps to aid farm ponds in the watershed. A subsidy covers up to 50 percent of construction cost to a $50 maximum, with expert engineering guidance and storage benefits highlighted by officials.
Orono Baseball Club advances to the Ontario B A D Intermediate final by beating Walsingham 8 to 5 to set a best two out of three series. Dashwood from western Ontario will oppose Orono in the first final game at Orono Park on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
On Highway 7A a caravan crash released baboons chimps and other monkeys from a ditched trailer. A 450 pound bear escaped and pursued the primates while driver William Donaghy suffered a bitten hand. A 15 foot Anaconda was also in the trailer. A daylight search was planned to recover all animals.
A local veterinarian Dr. Taggart now offers radio telephone service in his car allowing two way calls to and from the office. If unreachable at home, calls reach Port Hope to contact the doctor by radio telephone audible via car horn. A small toll is charged. first tried at office Mobile WJ 5 4330.
