Sixteen Honour Students Receive Awards From Orono Chamber
Sixteen honour students from the former Orono High School and a parent attended a dinner and awards night at Clarke High School cafeteria. The Orono Chamber of Commerce honored students who achieved at least 75 percent in the 1961-1962 term. Guest speaker John Patterson urged planning, goal setting, and balancing academics with values and future work.

Orono Voters To Decide On Municipal Water System
Four hundred twenty five qualified voters will decide whether Orono adopts a municipal water system at an estimated cost of 175 900 dollars. The poll at the Orono Municipal Building runs 10 am to 7 pm with results expected around 8 pm.

High C News and Holiday Plans for November December
The High C Campaign set a new record on November 16 as teens discussed cheating in school. Dane Rogerson Peggy Hancock Wayne Miller and Mary Lynn Bailey staged a skit, then groups answered questions, finding cheating morally wrong and unprepared for finals. A bakery sale of United Church Calendars is planned. There is no meeting on December 2 due to exams. the next gathering is December 16 with carol singing. A New Year Eve celebration, the High C Holiday Hop, is announced.

Music Recital at Shiloh Church Delights Local Audience
A recital presented by Mrs. E Westhouser and her pupils at Shiloh United Church on Friday November 16 featured piano duets solos and vocal performances. Students Denise Huett Peter Henderson Kim Westhouser Barbara Bur June Geach and others from Newtonville Starkville Kendal Perrytown performed while Karen Bickle was absent. The audience noted the benefit to Starkville and nearby communities of Mrs Westhouser's musical caliber.

Orono United Church Eyes New Christian Education Building
Tentative plans for a Christian Education Building at Orono United Church were unveiled by the Building Committee and architect Albert Cole of Bowmanville. The design includes 17 classrooms, a minister’s study, a friendship room, and a choir room across two levels with a 60 by 42 foot footprint and angel stone facing. A planning meeting is set for Wednesday at 1:00 pm in the Sunday School room.

Jones Wins $100 First Prize at Orono Banquet
Cecil Jones won the $100 first prize at the Orono Athletic banquet held Wednesday in the Oddfellows hall. Among 176 sold of 200 tickets, ten names were drawn then reduced to the final drum winner, with Jones the last ticket drawn. The event benefited winter sports and included a turkey dinner by the Orono Figure Skating Club.

The second annual Christmas party of the Orono Junior Gardeners Club was held Thursday November 22 in the Municipal Building with about 50 attendees. Prizes were awarded for door mantel and dining table arrangements, and 8 to 9 year old entrants won top spots.
