Nominations Set for Clarke Township Clarke School And Orono Village

Nominations open Friday November 23 for Clarke Township and Clarke School area and for the Orono Police Village. Township nominations run 1 PM to 2 PM for Reeve Deputy Reeve and three councillors plus two school trustees with address portion at 2 PM. Police Village nominations run 7 PM to 8 PM with three police trustees to be chosen. Current officials outline stewardship. vacancies noted with potential candidates. Water vote also noted as stirring interest.

Maple Leaf Mutual to Merge with Farmers Union Mutual

After 67 years Maple Leaf Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Columbus joins with Lindsay based Farmers Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company in a January 1 1963 merger. The plan includes reinsuring Maple Leaf policies, expanding Farmers Union directors, and using Columbus as a district office while Maple Leaf policyholders receive full cash credit.

Public Library Move Considered in Orono Meeting

Orono Library directors call a Friday general meeting at 3 pm to decide dissolving the current Associate Library and petition forming a Public Library. The Board, Police Trustees, and Township Council discussed the process with Mr Roedde of the Department, with most members favoring a public library.

District Junior Warden's Night Draws Masons From Many Lodges

The annual District Junior Warden's Night at Orono Lodge AF and AM drew a large gathering from Lodges across Whitby Port Hope Oshawa Cobourg and Elliott Lake. Seven worshipful masters and seven Past Grand Lodge officers attended as junior wardens led the program assisted by Rt Worshipful Brother T L Wilson who spoke in the banquet room.

Bride To Be Honoured With Shower At Stapleton Home

On a Wednesday evening about thirty five ladies gathered at Mr and Mrs Everett Stapleton home to honour bride to be Miss Ruth Bullock with a miscellaneous shower. She arrived surprised in a drive by her intended husband and sat to open gifts. Miss Joan Alldred organized games while Mrs Walter Stapleton Mrs Al Beard and Mrs Everett Stapleton served lunch.

Read Nearing Completion In Orono

The Cobbledick street reconstruction in Orono is nearing completion after two weeks of extensive digging and soil replacement with sandy gravel. Excavation reached thirty feet wide and two to two and a half feet deep to remove boil points, with top surface gravel to be leveled today. Drainage will route to Division Church and Main Streets, curb and gutter planned for next year, and no culverts for driveways. This is one of the village’s largest road projects in years.

Village residents face December 3 vote on contracting with the Ontario Water Resources Commission for a municipal water system at an estimated $175,000. OWRC projects debt retirement at about $18,062 yearly, funded by about $1 weekly per property, with potential improvements in health, fire protection, and land use.

Sabin Oral Polio Vaccine Endorsed for Certain Groups

Gardeners and Art Groups to Exhibit Work This Weekend

Crone Junior Gardeners host a Christmas party at the Municipal Building tonight starting at seven. The group will display fine work by junior members. The Orono Art Group follows in the same building with an art show and sale Friday and Saturday, both afternoon and morning.

Orono Band Seeks Beginners For Winter Music Class
