Clarke Township Area School Board Holds Notable Meeting

The Clarke Township area school board held a November meeting featuring a pot luck supper praised by Inspector Carlton. Set Up Of Municipal Council Discussed At Kirby

About sixty people attended a Durham Federation of Agriculture session at Kirby to discuss Municipal Government and Forums in Clarke Township. J. J. Mellor explained township powers, tax rolls, rate setting, and arrears while attendees praised the informative meeting.

Federation Of Agriculture Brings Entertainer To Orone

In Orono on Thursday November 21 the Durham Federation of Agriculture hosted an Adult Educational Program by Louise Colley Recreational Director Simcoe County Federation. About seventy five residents including many teachers attended demonstrations of songs games folk dances and square dancing with the Orono Guide Company as a demonstration group. The event aims to bring organized entertainment to rural areas and sparked interest in similar demonstrations across the county. The Durham Federation secretary Mellor reports inquiries about more events and observers praise the program as a valuable county wide benefit.

Orono Homecraft Guild To Host Two Special Speakers

Regular classes will be suspended for an 8 p.m. meeting with Mrs. Quereine Ballantyne speaking on Homemaking as a Handcraft and distributing recipes and literature. Miss Irene H. McBride will address Child Psychology and discuss training and behavior. A silver collection will help defray expenses.

Orono Police Trustees Nomination Meeting Ends Without Vote

About fourteen residents attended the Orono Police Trustees meeting at Town Hall on Friday. Three candidates were nominated. officers discussed garbage collection and village finances. no vote was taken as the matter was referred back to trustees.

Young People Plan Officers’ Congress and Meetings

The Young People Union of Park Street United Church held a meeting with Lloyd Crabbe substituting for Mrs Mitchell and Gwen Brooks at the piano. Hymns from Germany were sung and announcements covered November 39 Officers’ Congress at Ebeneezer with five pm registration. An invitation from Newtonville YPA for December 2 was noted, directed by Helen Wood. Dick Wood was named Culture Convenor for the season and Murray Patterson became publicity convener.

Clarke Township Teens Hold First Social Evening

Clarke Township teens held their first social evening at Orono Town Hall with about sixty youths attending. Teen-age Reeve Orville Chatterton gained approval for a future election as the township forms North South East and West wards with Joyce Tennant Helen Wood Betty-Ann Bourne and Mont Richardson named as councillors. Membership runs thirteen to twenty. plans include a December fourteenth pre Christmas meeting and a council session on December third.
