In a Orono Town Hall session on November 23 Health Inspector Mr Hall spoke after Dr MacCharles criticized disposal practices. He noted about half of health unit complaints relate to garbage and described dangers of unsupervised dumps and rat harborage, urging citizens to vote for proposed collection.
The Orono Homecraft Guild held a full November 13 meeting with a lecture by Mrs. McGinnis on Cereals and Milk covering buying storage cooking and serving. Mrs. Tamblyn spoke on budgeting and home management plus milk basics and budget plans. Sewing and handcraft classes demonstrated garments rugs and party details were shared with Mothercraft sessions opening on Thursdays. Christmas turkey tickets were promoted for December 13.
The November Wo men’s Institute meeting in Orono chaired by Mrs. E Hamm approved a one day conference on Developing Community Enterprise to be held December 11 from 10 am to 4 pm with speaker Mrs Clarence Hays of Georgetown. Noon lunch provided by the Orono Branch. Afternoon speaker Mrs O W Rolph summarized the Area Convention in Toronto with busi ness highlights and remarks on personalities met.
Mrs Rolph gave a talk that was enjoyed by all and a hearty vote of thanks was offered. The motion was moved by Mrs W W Sher win and seconded by Mrs J Dickson, with unanimous approval. After lunch the meeting closed with the National Anthem.
The Durham County Federation of Agriculture plans fall meetings to educate the public on local government. Discussions will cover township makeup divisions taxes voters lists juror selection and how taxes are spent. Citizens are urged to attend and partake in the forum style sessions.
South Simcoe County won the Jef frey Bull Memorial Trophy at the Royal Winter Fair, with 34 teams. The South Simcoe team scored 540 and was coached by F. A. Lashley, while Durham County finished second with 537 and coach E. A. Summers. Team members included Lloyd Ayre, Boyd Ayre, and Allan White. Ayre led with 1863 points, earning gold medals for swine judging and heavy horses. Allan White earned for heavy horses.
Farm Forum notes varied views on taxation with calls for fair assessments by County Assessors. Farmers critique income tax forms as too complex and oppose taxing improvements. many want higher taxes on luxuries and liquor while some support limited exemptions and requiring farm bookkeeping.
The Durham temperance movement hosts a County Convention at Trinity United Church Bowmanville on Wednesday November 27. Afternoon and evening sessions feature panel discussions and a public speaking contest by local youth led by temperance speakers including Mr R Moulton.
The Canadian Legion presented a brief to Prime Minister Mackenzie King and cabinet urging government takeover of the nation’s rehabilitation and reconstruction program. Legion leaders from nine provinces and U S commands warned the program risks collapse without state control. Maj Gen C B Price headed the delegation.
Miss Betty Carveth daughter of G Carveth Grande Prairie Alberta became the bride of James Dunn son of R Dunn Vegreville Alberta. Rev H Cantelon officiated amid yellow and white chrysanthemums. The couple will reside in Edmonton after a reception for thirty at the groom's home.
The Wo man s Christian Temperance Union held its November session at Mrs Walsh s home with Mrs Walsh presiding. After hymns readings and a devotional the group discussed dates and invited Mrs Seymour of Enniskillen to speak at the December 17 meeting. A Temperance Federation session at Bowmanville on November 27 was announced.
Local notice invites the public to attend a supper hour at Carter's Restaurant highlighting fine fellowship during the meal. The event welcomes community members to join in the social gathering.
Clarke Township Council met in Orono with all members present. They approved minutes, discussed hospital information, cattle on roads, and liability for cattle guards. A by law set nomination for November 23 at 1 PM and election for December 9 1946. Road subsidy yes and various bills approved.

News for Clarke Township teens announces a new Teen-agers Club in Orono with an executive list led by Honorary Reeve Ted Woodyard and Reeve Orville Chatterton. first meeting to be held at the Town Hall basement on Saturday November 23 with dancing and future plans.
