Liberals Honor W. F. Rickard in Durham Dinner

About 150 Liberals from Durham gathered at Odd Fellows Hall Orono last Thursday to honor W F Rickard for his long Liberal service from 1935 to 1945 and his support of farmers. Guests included former M P John James and tributes from Prime Minister Pearson and others.

Orono Band Holds Annual Meeting and Officer slate

The Orono Band met Tuesday evening at the New Dutch Oven Restaurant with fourteen members. Mr M J Tamblyn received a bouquet after the banquet. Secretary treasurer C Alldred reported a balance of 1534.49. Officers elected for 1965 were Carlos Tamblyn president Cecil Alldred secretary treasurer Donald Hamm band master and Milton J Tamblyn honorary band master. The group planned to resume practices on the first Monday in January and to arrange a spring concert with new music.

Tenders Called For Orono Water System Well

The Ontario Water Resources Commission invites bids to build a gravel packed well for Orono’s municipal water supply. The 75 gpm well sits at the north end of Mill Street. Tender opening in Toronto on December 17 at 3 15 p m.

Orono Trustees Plan December Water Main Tenders

Orono Village trustees met and discussed tenders for a water main extension across Highway 115 to Curply Wood Products in December. Soil tests will be done on the stand pipe site while a 4900 loan is reserved for the project. the storm sewer and winders work program were also reviewed.

Orono Hosts Scarboro Hi-C Visit For Olympic Evening

On Sunday November 15 Orono welcomed the Scarboro Hi-C group from New Castle and St. Pauls Scarboro. After a 3 30 tour of local lands and forests they toured Mosport, viewed Christmas tree plantings and tobacco farms, then returned for a 6 pm hot buffet supper planned by Anne and Carol Gilbank and Sharon Tamblyn. The event featured a church service, devotion, and an Olympic themed games challenge with top team scores awarded to Scarboro and dinner concluded at 9 30 pm.
