Clarke Students Earn Awards at Commencement Exercises

Clarke Township Council Deliberates on Restricted Land Use By law

Second reading granted to the Restricted Land Use By law as council weighs final passage while discussing road funding and reserve fund use. Union Rod and Gun Club requests sideroad work but no funds allocated this year. Road budget status, police trustees meeting requests, and updated pay rates also noted.

Two Fire Calls Struck Grono Department on Weekend

Grono Fire Department responded to two weekend fires. On Friday at about 3 15 p m a back shed at Mrs J Morris Church Street North burned, reigniting later. A 9 50 p m call returned to the scene to extinguish a renewed blaze believed started by youngsters. Sunday afternoon a separate fire destroyed a summer cottage belonging to Mr Jack Griffin on Clarke Township fifth line, thought to have started from a stove.

Send Me No Flowers rehearsals under Bow Manville Rotary

Under Margot Samuel direction the cast rehearses nightly for the Bow Manville Rotary annual production Send Me No Flowers. Remembrance Day Observed in Orono

Large crowd gathers for Remembrance Day at Orono Cenotaph with a parade led by the Bowmanville Legion Pipe Band. E Dent officiates as wreaths are laid by local groups and individuals, then a service at Orono United Church is conducted by Rev. B. Long.

Cubs Collect 7 Ton Of Paper In Orono Drive

The Orono Cubs and Scouts collected over seven tons of waste paper last Saturday. Proceeds will fund supplies and camping gear for the local pack. They plan quarterly drives, with funds now held by the local Cubs instead of the Central Committee in Bowmanville.

Softball Girls Earn Crests After 1964 Title

The Junior Girls Softball team, league champions in 1964, were guests at the Tennants home Friday. The party marked a successful season with only three losses, and the players enjoyed dancing and lunch. Crests donated by the Orono Amateur Athletic Association were presented.

Ron Black Wins $100 Draw at Athletic Banquet

Ron Black won the $100 prize at the Athletic Association annual banquet held Wednesday evening after a film showing. All banquet tickets sold out beforehand. Matt Snelder was the second last name drawn, with several others in the final ten including G. de John Joe Walker Mrs K West Mrs Chatterton Bob Johnston Mrs R Black Chas Cooper and H Partner.
