Voters choose five from seven for Clarke Township School Area
Seven candidates qualified for the five seats on the Clarke Township Public School Area Board to take office January 1 1965. Nine were nominated. only seven advanced to the ballot to be cast Monday December 7 at nine polling stations. Candidates include Ernest Dent Paul McMackin Robert Stephenson William Wannan and others with former board service cited by several nominees.

Dr R Laing Buried In Orono
Dr Ross Laing a native of the Orono district died Sunday in Chicago. Interment was in the Laing Vault Orono Cemetery on Wednesday. Rev Neal of Hamilton led the service. He was born at Kirby and educated in local schools. He played baseball with the Orono club and studied at Victoria College Toronto graduating arts in 1917.

Three incumbent Orono Police Trustees H M Mercer Douglas Simpson and Roy Forrester were returned to office for another year by acclamation at the Friday meeting Six other nominees H Cobbledick J Moffat and F Nichol son were not elected Mercer noted water progress and a 28000 forgiveness under the Municipal Loan program while tenders for a well and soil samples for a stand pipe were discussed Simpson outlined fire department work storm savers on Church Street new street lights and hydro projects including underground work on Division Street and a 25000 debenture planned over two years Hydro capital improvements for 1955 were projected at 18000 plus a Main Street South line reconstruction costing over 7000. The hydro system now totals 101000 in capital value, up 40000 in five years as power costs rose by 10000 to 25000. Nicholson urged for new blood on the board Moffat hesitated Cobble dick said he would not run Forrester praised 1964 as a progressive year with new street lights public library road work grass cutting and the water system nearing completion The new street lights cost 2800.
