Midland Regiment Holds Last Parade in Port Hope
The Midland Regiment known as the Mad Midlands held its final parade on Sunday and stored regimental colours at St. Mark's Anglican Church Port Hope. The 136th Battalion colours were safeguarded with those of World War I. The Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment bugle band led the march as notices went out to Mad Midlands across Ontario. The National Defence department ended the Midland Regiment’s official status this year ending Port Hope district ties to the region’s historic military past.

Twenty Boys Turn Out For First Scout Parade
The Orono Boy Scouts held their initial meeting Monday at 7:30 in the Orono Armouries with twenty boys present. Heat prevented full activities. more boys expected next meeting. Scoutmaster is Andy McGill with Klaus Shoenmaker as assistant. A A Russell assists with the Orono Cub Pack of about forty five, currently at the United Church and soon to move to the Armouries.

Mary Jane Hooey died in Bowmanville hospital November 12 1954
After a lengthy illness Mary Jane Hooey died at Bowmanville Hospital on November 12 1954 in her 82nd year. She was born January 17 1878 in Clarke Township daughter of the late John Wannan and his wife. She is survived by two sons Harold and Lawrence of Orono two sisters Mrs Elizabeth Henderson and Mrs Loftus Bellamy and five grandchildren three great grandchildren. Funeral from Orono United Church November 15 with Rev John Kitchen officiating. Interment in Orono Cemetery.

The Orono Branch of the Canadian Red Cross held an reorganization meeting at Orono Public School on Monday afternoon with about fifteen local women in attendance. Officers elected include President Mrs. W. Armstrong First Vice President Mrs. A. F. McKenzie Second Vice President Mrs. C. B. Tyrrell Treasurer Mrs. H. Murray Secretary Mrs. Mas. Thirty five members and seven guests attended Friday afternoon’s meeting. The group voted unanimously to continue to year end under current officers, with renewed effort and new members joining. Mary Kathleen Hallowell and Brian Harold Caswell exchanged marriage vows in a double ring ceremony at Caswell Hall Newtonville United Church.
