A barn on R Carveth's farm west of Dean's Corner burned late Saturday. Three fire departments battled the blaze, preventing spread to the house and other buildings. No livestock lost. a shed and paint on a nearby garage were saved. Water from Laing's stream aided multiple teams.

Hunters Report Successes Across Northern Deer Country
Game Warden Doug Powell notes general good deer hunting this year with many deer moved north. In the first week Orono groups reported success led by Gerald Duvall with a doe and two fawns, Howard Woods and Ross Mercer each with two deer, and Howard Myles with two deer and a bear. Clarke Township Ganaraska three day hunt yielded slightly fewer deer than last year but overall strong local activity.
