Clarke Township Opens New Municipal Garage and Road Projects

Clarke Township held a Friday ceremony dedicating the new municipal garage amid a wider program of road and bridge construction across the township. The projects total an estimated 367 530 dollars with provincial and federal aid and a local share of 109 331 dollars repaid over five years. About sixty county and municipal representatives attended as buses toured ten other projects, with a supper at the Oddfellows Hall where officials praised cooperative government and funding efforts.

Orono Band Considers Junior Beginner’s Band

Members of the Orono Band and wives held a banquet at the New Dutch Oven Restaurant with thirty attendees. The meeting debated forming a junior band separate from the senior group to recruit and train young musicians and set goals for hiring an instructor and a November 29th update.

Millson Outlines Clarke Township Planning History

Mr. H. E. Millson, Clarke Township Clerk, addressed the Chamber of Commerce at the New Dutch Oven, tracing Clarke planning from 1958 to 1965. He stressed that planning aims to protect municipal services, regulate subdivision control, and balance public interest with private development.

Tudor House Opens In Orono

A new enterprise named Tudor House will open to the public Friday November 19 at 3 p m south of Barrow's Furniture in Orono. Owned by Mr and Mrs S J Norton it offers antiques including fine china glassware copper brass furniture pictures and other items with a fine window display now shown.

Chamber Considers Donation To Rink Fund

The Chamber of Commerce discussed a notice of motion on Monday regarding a $1000 donation to the Orono Artificial Ice Fund. If approved, the funds would be provided when needed, with final review at the December meeting.

Anniversary Dance Honors E A Couvier at Orono Hall

On November 6 1965 Mr and Mrs E A Couvier were surprise guests of honour at a dance in Orono Odds fellow s Hall hosted by son Wayne and daughters Donna Hutton Bonnie Reid with husbands. About eighty friends attended to toast the twenty fifth wedding anniversary and music was by master of ceremonies Orville Chatterton. Lunch followed and guests departed for Brampton Cooksville Toronto Oshawa Peterborough Lakefield Camp Borden Bowmanville and Orono.
