Honey Increases His Majority In Durham
Liberal Russell Honey retains the Durham riding with 7 945 votes or 42 percent of the total, beating Progressive Conservative Garnet Rickard who had 6 697 votes. NDP candidate Tony Ketchum polled 3 941 votes, while Social Credit's Walter Crandall received 174. Conservatives and Liberals both fell compared with 1963 as the NDP gained the most from the losses. A minority government is anticipated per Honey.

Clarke Township Council Hears Tax, School Plans and By law Proposals
Clarke Township Council met November 1 in the Council Chambers receiving multiple delegations. Issues included drainage relief, an insurance claim by Mrs Jean Allin, and a taxi by law study with a draft to be prepared. Delegates also discussed a public school building program for 1966 1967 and approved funding for No 9 School additions. The township moved to amend the restrictive area by law for multiple residences and sought formal Community Planning Board approval for the W P Irwin subdivision south of Orono. Reeve and clerk authorized to sign contracts for the Crooked Creek bridge with Ganaraska Bridge Co Ltd.

Students Act As Scrutineers In Durham Riding Polls
About thirty high school students from four area schools volunteered as scrutineers in multiple polling booths across Durham riding on election day. The initiative, urged by the Durham County New Democratic Association, aimed to educate students and foster understanding of election mechanics. Trinity College Port Hope Millbrook Courtice High Schools endorsed the plan, providing the thirty students who were approved at the polls by the NDP. The proposal was presented by Mr EB Dent of Orono to the NDP executive.

Clarke Township School Board Proposes Building Program
At a regular meeting the Clarke Township Public School Area discussed progress on a two room addition and general purpose room at Newtonville. A heating system upgrade costing 1700 was approved. The plan includes retaining Kendal Brown's Lockharts and Newtonville as base units while building a six room school north of Orono and adding two rooms to Kendal if needed. Council approved the Lockharts addition for 1966 and will seek Ontario Municipal Board approval to use current funds for the project.

Unit 5 hosted a supper and music evening featuring four Villa Tones members from Thornhill, Muscular Dystrophy victims who travel to entertain and raise funds. The event included performers Douglas Knight Beverley Choryank Kevin Mather Shirley Young with support from Pat Wynn Morrow Jessie and transportation by Cyril Knight and Wright Morrow. A guest from Flint Michigan Mrs Viola Young attended. the group performed in the Upper Christian Education auditorium to a large attentive audience from various church groups.

Hopeful for Artificial Ice Plant at Orono Arena
Artificial Ice Committee remains hopeful to install an ice plant at the Orono Arena this winter. Mr Clark will review equipment this week and arrangements for site leveling are set with Earl Taylor in charge. A joint-use meeting with Durham Central Agricultural Society was discussed and fundraising dances may be planned to support the ice fund.
