Orono approves winter works projects for streets and parks
Orono Police Trustees received word from the Department of Municipal Affairs approving most Winter Works projects. Approved items include four new street lights, 1000 feet of sidewalk, a toll curb and a water main on Division Street plus Park projects and a new pool plan.

Dur ham Shorthorns sold well at the Durham County Sale in Blackstock with 4 bulls averaging 316.25 and 25 females averaging 243.20. Bulls were slightly softer than last year while top open heifer reached 340 and top bull 375. buyers included W P Sharman, Wm Irving and Chas Robson among others.

The Durham County Federation of Agriculture held its regular Directors Meeting on Nov 3 at Nestleton home of Mr and Mrs Ralph Larm er. Guest Glenn Cole Ontario Cream Producers spoke on fund contributions to dairy advertising and the butter fat deduction. He noted cooperation with the Soya Bean Growers Marketing Board and outlined margarine colour ban and tariff aims. Butter surplus is about 20 million lbs annually with 125 million lbs in stocks.

Durham 4-H Considers New Apple Growing Club in 1961
The Durham 4-H Club Leaders Association met at Bowmanville on October 26 to discuss forming the Durham 4-H Apple Growing Club for 1961. The C.G.LT. assembled Monday at 7 30 PM with the purpose and hymn. Psalm 24 was read and studied. Discussion covered the Ark of the Covenant followed by hymn 249 scripture reading and prayer. Secretary and treasurer reports given. An Evening Auxiliary invitation announced for Thursday. Embroidering squares for a quilt project began. Meeting closed with taps.
Lakeshore Intermediate Hockey League to include eight teams
At a Port Hope meeting eight clubs will form the Lakeshore Intermediate Hockey League. Bowmanville, Cobourg, Orono, Oshawa, Port Hope, Trenton, RCAF and Toronto Macedonians join the six initial members. Lakefield was rejected, Lindsay admitted, and Toronto Macedonians were approved to join Port Hope in late November.

The October Ev ening Auxiliary meeting in the Sunday School Auditorium opened with hymn singing and prayers. Members discussed supporting Miss Dulcie Ventham in India and planned to forward funds, while collecting clothing for local missions. Members also joined the WMS anniversary events and heard lectures and slides, with musical interludes and a Mizpah Benediction.
