Orono Public School Trustees met last week with all members present. They approved funding for fire escapes, addressed unsafe basement and Miss Foster room windows, and directed locks. A fire alarm upgrade was requested and Miss Foster told to restore full noon hour timing for all Public School operations.
Cobourg council passed a resolution to study annexation of land for industrial use. Mayor Burnet said acreage over 20 acres is needed, citing many inquiries and interest from townships. Councillor Caine urged concrete reporting from the industrial commission. The mayor praised H. O. Taylor for service to the commission.
The Orono public meeting discusses payments to Orono Coal and Lumber and Lunn Hardware. The board approves most accounts but flags sanding costs and a $55 cable bill for further inquiry by the board.
The Orono Orphans opened their hockey season at Port Perry arena before 600 fans, losing 4 3 to the Bowmanville Barons with a late winning goal. Don Mercer took three penalties, while Raye West and Freddy Mortimer scored for Orono. The follow up loss at Cobourg left the locals 0 2 early in the schedule.
The Orono Brass Band elected officers at its annual meeting in which Ivison Tamblyn became president with Don Hamm as vice president and Carlos Tamblyn as secretary treasurer. Directors named were C Alldread Ross Allin and Vernon Graham while Milton Tamblyn was reappointed bandmaster. Members planned a turkey banquet and gathered at the Orono Restaurant after the meeting.
Madi son M. Walter named to the Royal Bank of Canada board of directors and elected vice president. He will handle day to day bank affairs with expanded responsibilities. Born in Orono, son of Orma Madison Walter, grandson of United Empire Loyalist William Annis. Attended Oshawa High School and joined the Oshawa Branch in 1914 before military leave in 1914.
The World Ploughing Match cairn at the United Counties Home for the Aged in Cobourg will receive tulips gifted by Dutch ploughmen, flowers arriving soon from Holland. Care and planting responsibilities are unresolved between the Counties and Cobourg officials, with residents proposed to help tend the display.

Warden A Beer broke ground for the new 450000 dollar administrative building in Cobourg marking the start of a new era for the United Counties. Mayor J D Burnet praised friendly negotiations ending prior differences and noted space needs in Cobourg town hall will abate. About 25 county council members attended this spur of the moment ceremony.
Newcastle Lions Club donates funds and bingo equipment to the Orono Amateur Athletic Association as it plans a rummage sale and a second bingo to raise winter operating funds for youth sports. A rink cleanup and repairs are planned to ensure usable ice for the season.
Orono Police Trustees met to discuss Incorporation of the Village and adjoining area. A petition will be drawn for submission to the Municipal Board after a public meeting for input. The proposed boundaries include parts of lots 27 28 29 in concessions four five six and extend to the south of Mr Sissons house.
Canadian experiments at Kapuskasing test twenty seven month shorthorn steers. Open shed winters with elated doors provided shelter while calves outside consumed similar hay and silage but less grain. Gains averaged 174 pounds outside versus 191 inside over 196 days.
A large turnout including Bowmanville Legion members Ladies Auxiliary and Air Cadets paused at Orono United Church on Sunday November 6 to honor fallen service personnel. The procession featured the Bowmanville Legion Pipe Band wreath laying two minutes of silence and memories of sacrifice read by Legion president Ross McKnight. The Rev. A C Herbert of St Johns Bowmanville delivered a sermon urging faith service and public duty.
