Ontario Hog Marketing Scheme Proposed Voting Plan

Ontario hog producers would vote between November 12 and December 8 on a broad marketing scheme by the Ontario Hog Producers Association. It creates a seven district Marketing Board, licenses hog buyers and processors, and sets annual fees to fund board activities under Farm Products Control Act regulations.

Local Animals Bring High Prices At Record Sale

The All-Canadian Holstein Sale in Oakville October 31 saw record prices and averages. M. J. Tamblyn of Orono won 2200 for seven month old Cedar Dale Pietje Cora, a granddaughter of Montvic Bonheur Pietje B, purchased by H. L. Guilbert of Vercheres. Bulls and cows set new prices with 34 animals at 1000 and 16 at 2000+, and a new Canadian record bull price of 14500 for Glenafton Ray Apple Historian. Buyers from five provinces and the U.S. attended with one from Mexico.

Greta Marie Mercer became the bride of Harold Sidney Luxton at Park Street United Church Orono on Saturday November 3 with Rev. S Litthewood officiating. The couple plans to reside in Bowmanville after a brief trip and a reception at the bride’s home followed. Orono Band will hold a dance on November 9 with Jack Galloway’s Orchestra.

Durham Club Dominates Guelph Inter-County Event

At Guelph on Friday October 26 the Inter-County Club Competitions drew about 130 teams across Grain Potatoes Swine Beef Cattle Dairy Cattle Horses and Poultry. Durham County entered seven teams with wins led by West Durham Swine Club and Enniskillen Potato Club. Durham placed in multiple divisions and prepares for the Dominion finals in Toronto November 19 20 with Dairy Beef Swine Grain and Potato winners to compete alongside other provinces.

William J Clemence 81 Passes After Short Illness

William J Clemence of Shaws died October 12 1945 at Oshawa General Hospital in his 81st year after a brief illness. Born in Hope Township he farmed near Kirby and married Georgina Allan in 1909. Survived by widow and seven children in Canada and abroad. two children predeceased him in 1912. Funeral held October 15 from his residence with Rev Wm Patterson and Rev R E Morton, burial Bowmanville Cemetery. Pallbearers named.

The Woman's Missionary Society of Park Street Church Orono held its November meeting with Mrs. Staples presiding. A nominating committee was formed to present a slate for December. On Friday November 2 at Orono ten girls and two boys from Durham schools competed in the Durham Trustees and Ratepayers Association Public Speaking Contest. Kathleen Bryans of Millbrook won first with Marilyn Bristow of Woodvale second. both will advance to Brighton and then the Provincial Contest in 1946.

Monster Trout Surrenders After Garden Hill Incident

A large brown trout, eight pounds two ounces and two feet long, entered a mill waste gate at Garden Hill. Out of season, the mill staff released water to rescue it, placing the fish in a wet sack and at a watering trough for survival.
