Durham County Agriculture Leader Dies at 33

Edward Alvin Summers longtime Durham County agricultural representative dies at Bowmanville Memorial Hospital after a heart attack at home. He coached 4H and Junior Farmers teams that excelled at Royal Winter Fair and held key roles in multiple Durham farm groups. He served in WWI and earned the Military Medal. He is survived by his wife Ina D. Weegar. The funeral was at Trinity United Church with burial in Bowmanville Cemetery.

Orono Public School Board Discusses High School Site

The Orono Public School Trustees met with all members present. They approved thanking Marvin Lunn for painting the fire alarm sign and purchasing a 446 inch Super Silent fan from Ralph Hardware for 174 dollars to replace an inadequate ceiling fan. They discussed locating a new high school within the district and offered 7 acres east of the Orono School on Highway 115 as a potential site. They will contact the Durham County High School Board and collect all outstanding accounts. Accident insurance showed 173 dollars paid in claims and 170 dollars in premiums. the board will renew at a 190 dollar premium this year.

Students To Compete In County Public Speaking

Twelve contestants competed in the East Durham Public Speaking contest for public school children. Five were chosen at Campbellcroft to advance to Orono Friday for the County of Durham title. The Orono event features ten speakers at the Sunday School Auditorium starting 3:00 PM.

The Afternoon Auxiliary of the Woman's Missionary Society hosted its Autumn Thank-offering with Rev Amy Schauffler, Angola Africa, as guest speaker. She detailed work at The Means School for girls and village outreach in Angola, with slides showing country beauty and leadership growth.

Orono Creamery Sold to T. M. Chant New Owner

T. M. Chant of Hampton Creamery has purchased the Orono Creamery from H. C. Goode, taking over Monday. The Orono plant will continue butter manufacturing and eye grading in the same building, with the office remained open and the names preserved. Routing may shift to avoid duplicate truck runs, and extra help may be needed to handle the transfer.

Combines Rally To Beat Oakville 6 4 In Exhibition Hockey

Bowmanville Orono Combines hosted Oakville Senior B in Bowmanville and won 6 to 4. Ross Hawes starred in goal with spectacular saves while Bill Cherry tallied three goals on the Cherry line. Dean West Armstrong and Raye West fueled passing plays as the defense showed room for improvement.

Guides Weekly Meeting Includes Tests and Parade Reminder

Guides gathered at 7 30 for games led by Marlene Graham. Captain Ruth Grady inspected. patrols demonstrated bedrolls and first aid skills. Mrs Gilbart advanced several members on laws and first aid. Reminder to wear full uniform for Sunday's parade. prayer and taps concluded. Traveling basket circulated in Cob Hill and surrounding streets, well received by residents with Local Association cooperation.

New Memorial Cenotaph Unveiling Set for Sunday in Orono

The Orono and Community Memorial Cenotaph near Main and Station Streets will be unveiled Sunday at 3 PM. Rev. John Kitchen chairs. speakers include Brig. L. N. Carr and Lt. Gen. H. D. Graham. Local officials attend. bands perform. the debt remains $123 after completion this week.
