Orono Defeats Belleville In Opening Baseball Match

Orono Intermediate beats Belleville 8 to 2 at Orono Park. Pitcher Eric Carleton allowed eight hits in nine innings with four strikeouts and two walks. Don Mercer led Orono with four hits, Charles Armstrong and Tim Coxa added multiple hits, while Belleville scored all three runs in the fourth inning aided by two Orono errors.

Trustees Let Contract For Water System

The Orono Police Trustees awarded contracts for a water system on Division Street. A six inch main will serve adjacent properties and the pump house was awarded to Rolph Hardware for the project. Fishing With Spear And Light Briars Fine

Cobourg on Friday morning Austin Ainsworth faced charges for possessing a spear near a stream waters edge. He paid 75 dollars plus costs for the possession and 50 dollars plus costs for fishing at night with a light. Local game warden Doug Powell warned that.Game and Fish laws carry heavy fines.

Orono Hosts Toronto Glee Club in Pleasant Tea

On Thursday May 10 Orono High School welcomed sixty members of the Glee Club from R. H. King Collegiate Toronto led by Mr John Ford. They performed classical and modern songs including Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and My Bill with a Showboat selection. Mrs Richard Morton accompanied with a piano solo. the group received a standing ovation and thanks from Students Council President Doug Martin. A Tea Dance with donuts and pop followed.

Orono Amateur Athletic Auction Nets About $80

The Orono Amateur Athletic Association held a Rum mage Sale in the Orono Municipal Building. Auctioneer Jack Reid led bids on a varied array of items. Proceeds near $80 will fund summer sports and park operations for the year.

Clarke Council Opens Tenders for Four Ton Track

Clarke Township Council met Tuesday and opened tenders for the four ton track. Budget limits and road program funding were reviewed with bids ranging from $7,368.54 to $9,997.00. The Road Superintendent reported on Mosport road work with possible completion under budget. a bylaw study on abandoned cemeteries was also noted.

Orono Junior Girls Exhibit Strong Scoring In Exhibition

The Orono Junior girls faced Bowmanville in an exhibition at Orono Park after the boys game. The free scoring affair saw both teams tally 22 runs. Sharon Willis Mark Hoosy led catching with Donne Carveth Sharon Willis and Peggy Tancock also contributing.

Fireworks Night in Orono Features Car Bang Display

The Orono Chamber of Commerce promoted the annual Orono fireworks at the Agricultural grounds on Monday night. A Kontinental Kar Klub of Oshawa displayed five cars with workshop work. The club staged a first Car Bang with a swinging charge against an old car, while fireworks lit the dusk with aerial patterns and spin wheels. A $90 collection by local boys supplemented by gate donations.

Miss Lena Taylor Speaks to Evening Auxiliary

The May meeting of the Evening Auxiliary featured Miss Lena Taylor from the Durham Northumberland Health Unit as guest speaker. She spoke on life in non Christian and newly Christian countries, stressing support for youth and local schools, and urged future talks.
