Excellent Showing By Junior Garden Members

Thursday's May meeting of the Junior Gardener's Club at the Oddfellows Ball featured plans for a June 10 picnic in Orono Park starting at 2:00 p.m. Children will bring lunches and several Oshawa Club kids will join. Participants proposed gardens of tomato, aster, carrot, beet, zinnia, calendula, and gladioli with a 100 by 10 foot planting area.

Orono Fair Seeks Art Show and Antique Cars Exhibit

Durham Central Agricultural Society held May meeting at Orono Town Hall. A L Blanchard welcomed new Director Russell Cochran. Don Staples outlined a six category Art Prize and an Antique Automobiles exhibit. Work Bee planned at Fair Grounds for June 7 with band, ditches and fences repairs. District 4 meeting attended by Geo. Carson and others. next Durham Central meeting set for late June.

Summer Pre School Program Planned in Clarke Township

The Clarke Township Recreation Committee plans a summer program for children aged 3 to 6 with colouring crafts story time games and play. Registrations June 9 from 7 30 to 8 30 p m at the Municipal Building.

Orono Man Killed In Auto Accident

Albert Pollard of Orono died instantly when his Morris car was demolished by a gravel truck on Highway 115 at Dean's Corners south of Orono. He was the father of Mrs. Everett Brown and Mrs. Ken Neal of Orono and Mrs. Wm. Lake of Newcastle. Pollard had lived with Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Neal for years.

Invitation Received To Compete In Ontario Drama Festival

A notice says Mrs. E. H. Samuel received an invitation for the Orono Drama Festival winner to join the Ontario One Act Play Festival. The Ontario committee endorses the Orono event and will notify potential entrants for the September festival to be held locally.

Orono Festival Entries At Township Hall September 28 29 30

Three groups enter the Orono Festival held in the Township Hall September 28 29 and 30. Pickering Township Little Theatre Bowmanville Drama Workshop and Lindsay Little Theatre join the event sponsored by the Durham Central Agricultural Society. Ontario Festival in Hart House Toronto week of October 9 features provincial honours in the one act play grouping.

New Party Initiatives At Open Meeting In Durham

The Durham area CCF unit hosted an open meeting with Donald McDonald MPP as guest speaker to discuss forming a New Party and elect delegates for its founding convention. In Orono the Police Trustees reviewed street line painting bids, land purchase options, park projects, water system work, and village incorporation petitions with over 300 signatures collected.

Antique Car Rally At Orono Revives Memories Of Days Gone By

Thirty five antique automobiles gathered at Orono Community Park on Sunday with models dating from 1903 to 1934. Vehicles from Orono and nearby towns drew crowds as they toured the village and tested their driving skills in a potato race. Organizers from Antique Automobiles of America Ontario Region and local owners showcased classic makes including Cadillac, Durea, Model A Fords, McLaughlin Buicks, Chevs and Willys.

Peterborough Swimmers Highlight Orono Pool Opening

Orono Park Board plans the official pool opening for Friday June 22 featuring the Peterboro Swimmers showing routines. A life guard was hired Miss Margery Tyrrell for forty two hours. spectator entry remains free in the north seating area. The board expects a $1600 shortfall funding the pool and supplies.

Spring Flowers Judged At Horticultural Meet

Orono Horticultural Society met May 25 at Odd Fellow's Hall with about 60 members. Mrs Russell Van Horn judged Spring Flower entries while Mrs Jean Long could not attend. Winners included Mrs Peter de Vos and Mrs Harold Cobbledick for dining table arrangements and Mrs Raymond Chapman in Best Tulip. Profits and district meeting details noted.
