Orono Athletic Plans Baseball Softball and Park Program
Orono Athletic Association will sponsor two boys baseball teams in Midget and Tyke divisions and a Junior Girls Softball team for ages sixteen and under. The Midget squad includes Bantam players. schedule opens May 22 in the Minor Lakeshore league. Tentative two to three Village teams for Tyke play with all star selection for interleague games with Bowmanville and Newcastle. Park program for ages 6 to 12 runs mornings in July at Orono Park with $1 individual or $2.50 family registration.

Elizabeth Waddell obituary in Orono and Toronto
Elizabeth Waddell died at St Josephs Hospital in Tor onto on Saturday April 21 1962 and was buried in Orono Cemetery on April 24 1962. She leaves two sisters Catherine A and Helena J Waddell of Orono and two brothers David M of Seattle Washington and George W S Bethany Ontario. She was born at the family homestead east of Orono eldest daughter of James and Agnes Waddell. She belonged to the Presbyterian Church and later Orono United Church. She studied fine art in Toronto at Knowles Studio and was known for landscapes portraits and flowers. She will be missed in Orono and in Toronto where she lived with cousin Miss Coulter for fourteen years.

The Lakeshore Umpires Association held its initial meeting in New Castle on Monday with strong attendance. Arnold Wade of Newtonville presided as president as officers were reelected. A $10 arbiters fee was approved plus a $50 honorarium to the president for past service. Umpiring rates for various leagues and playoffs were established, with no fees for Junior or South Durham due to no entries, and an umpiring school to be conducted by George Bain of Hamilton.

The Merry Music Makers held a third meeting at The Studio of Mrs Staples and Mrs Staples featuring a harvest game and piano solos by Linda McLaren John Duvall Richard Bunting and others. Orono Baseball Club formed and plans a Lakeshore League entry with first game May 22 at Orono Park. A troopers group from the Orono Couples Club presented a lively variety show at the United Church basement with music dancing sketches and a shadow act. They plan a fall full evening and support for the Orono United Church centennial celebration.
