Centennial Trees Planted at Lockhart School
On Tuesday April 25 pupils at Lockhart's School planted two Centennial flowering crab trees Almey and Royalty with funds raised by students. They pledged loyalty to Canada and sang national songs. Mrs. Greenwood and Clarke Township Centennial chair Mrs. Fairbrother witnessed. more tree planting planned May 8 and 9 at Orono Reforestry station with Grades 7 and 8, plus trees to be planted at Newtonville Browns Kendal and Orono schools.

Mrs K Lowery president opened the meeting with the Lord's Prayer. Secretary Mrs J Hoy read minutes. Mr Moffat reported on the salary committee. Inspector C Holmes spoke briefly. Moffat outlined Tabloid Sports Day at Kendal on June 15 with teams of fifteen from Grades 4 to 8. Captains and contestants were chosen.

Gas main break floods street during late Tuesday work
While tapping under Main Street at Park Street the Consumers Gas crew struck the 8 inch water main. Water surged and the Newcastle Public Utilities repaired the break by 8 PM. The Orono Fire Department laid hoses to supply area, causing temporary outages in the south section while gas work continued. Dent reports Tuesday water was 75000 gallons above average.

Newcastle Man Wins NHL Draw
Mr. Pigeon of Newcastle won the Orono Artificial Ice Fund N.H.L. Draw decided by Toronto's Tuesday victory. Ninety eight tickets sold at a dollar each would net the Ice Fund about $450 after expenses and the fifty percent prize.
