Fire destroys Massey Harris building in Bowmanville

A fire of unknown origin wiped out the Massey Harris implement building of Mr. J. H. Hancock in Bowmanville on Sunday night. Firefighters rescued Mrs. W Hawley and two grandchildren trapped in their first floor apartment after smoke cut off escape. Hancock estimated losses over 20000 dollars with many records and parts destroyed. The town’s volunteers contained the blaze to one building and prevented broader damage.

Canadian liquor probe urged as gambling condemned

Durham County Federation of Agriculture Meets at Stevens Home

Plans advanced for drainage work, forum outreach, a possible joint April 11 meeting in Cavan Township, and a delegation to the Toronto Forum Convention on April 1 1946. The group endorsed Farmers Day on June 21 and eyed the Durham Annual Picnic, with committees appointed for speakers and representatives. The Ganaraska Scheme received hearty support.
