Special Prize For Bacon Hogs At Orono Fair

The T. Haton Co with Agricultural Society add 15 dollars to 30 to offer prizes for a pen of 5 bacon hogs at Orono Fair. First 12, second 10, third 8, fourth 6, fifth 5, sixth 4 dollars. Hogs must be owned and fed by exhibitor for 90 days. Hogs must be on grounds by 11 am Wednesday September for inspection and sale by sealed tender with bids due September 20.

Howard Walsh returned from Hamilton where the Grand Lodge of Ontario L O C held its annual session Rev J H Osterhout was installed as Grand Chaplain in a distinguished office The new appointee will serve the Order with credit and fulfill duties well Congratulations were offered.

Mrs James Burley Rites Held After Sudden Ontario Death

Mrs. James Burley formerly Sarah Jane Triges died June 18 after a heart attack while en route to Treherne Manitoba. Born March 14 1877 in Port Gramby Ontario she leaves two sons Roy and Clarence and three daughters Pearl Hazel Ruby plus eight grandchildren. Funeral from Willis Farrow home Port Granby and burial in Newtonville cemetery conducted by Rev Beech.

Primrose Legis Tops All In 305 Day Contest

The June Record of Performance list shows Tolstein cattle credits to M. J. Tamblyn of Orono Ontario with Cedar Dale Primrose Segis as leading mature cow in the 305 day division. At 5 years old she produced 12248 pounds milk and 444 pounds fat from 805 days test, 3.03 percent butterfat. She is by imported Sir Pansy Segis, a noted sire for Tamblyn and partners.

Miss Nora Rainey Receives Mixed Shower Honors

Miss Nora Rainey bride to be was honored with a miscellaneous shower at Mrs. Harold Allend home. Pink and white decor set the scene as friends presented gifts and Rainey offered thanks before contests and a luncheon concluded the evening.

Road Taken Over by United Counties Across a Long County Route

County Council passed bylaws on June 13 to take over a regional road from Kirby to Kendal to Elizabethville and Garden Tillon to Campbell Exofit. The new link joins the County road and the Peterboro Highway, providing a local outlet and shortening trips compared with the current longer route via Newcastle and Highway No. 28. Clarke Council representatives are thanked for their persistent effort.

Clarke pioneer Cor nelius Crossley passes away at Port Hope

Cor nelius Crossley a Clarke township pioneer died at Port Hope Hospital two weeks ago aged over thirty years. He lived a happy life among many friends and leaves a widow Miss Mary Ann Harness and several children. The funeral was from his son Thomas Crossley’s residence in Port Hope to Union Cemetery. survivors include Lewis Welcome, Thomas Port Hope, Mrs Giarside Peterboro, and Bert Clarke township.

A town band will perform on the new bandstand Thursday June 30 from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Weather issues caused a previous cancellation.

Eliza beth E. Maguire of Orono died Saturday morning at 81 after a sudden illness. She was the wife of Oscar Shcottt and daughter of John and Mrs Maguire of Lifford. Funeral at Park Street United Church with Rev. Osterhout officiating. interment in Orono Cemetery. Survived by husband, a son, Mrs Chas. Dig mian and three nephews. Pallbearers listed.

John Morris Hurt in Fall From Tele p hone Pole at Dean's Corner

John Morris suffered a severe accident while repairing a telephone pole near Dean's corner. The pole broke causing a thirty foot fall that dislocated his right shoulder and fractured his right forearm above the wrist. Dr Colville attended and he was taken to Bowmanville Hospital.

Decoration Day Service At Orono Cemetery Draws Hundreds

Between five and six hundred attendees gathered at Orono cemetery on Sunday afternoon for Decoration Day. Lodges and veterans decorated graves with flowers as Rev J H Osterhout led prayers and scripture. Rev D B Dewdney of Newcastle gave a forceful address praising the cemetery, noting improved upkeep and urging courage before death.

Clarke United Defeats Enniskillen 3-0 in Orono

Clarke United defeated Enniskillen 3 to 0 at Orono. Harry Davey and Jack Bogey scored, boosting Clarke to a 2-0 lead by halftime as Enniskillen failed to score. Jack Stobart recovered from cramps to add another Clarke goal before full time. Bowmanville’s Moguls challenged Clarke to an exhibition game next Saturday.
