Col J W Odell Retires as Public School Inspector

Col J W Odell of Cobourg retires as Public School Inspector No 2 amid the absorption of the Northumberland and Durham inspectorates. Born in England and educated at Orono Bowmanville and the University of Toronto, he served in war roles before becoming inspector in 1919 and will be 72 this October. The No 2 inspectorate will be divided between Col E Snyder and A A Martin.

George H Luxon dies in Clarke at 79

George H Luxon of Clarke died Tuesday July 5 1988 at age 79. The funeral will be held from his son H W Tuxon’s residence Lot 4 Concession 6 Clarke on Thursday July 7 at 2 PM. Burial follows at Orono Cemetery.

Rev Samson Littlewood Inducted to New Charge

Rev Samson Littlewood was inducted Friday at Park Street United Church. The service, led by Rev H J Bell, included sermons on duty and responsibility. Rev W C Smith and Rev W F Bannister spoke, welcoming Mr Littlewood to the Orono circuit. The meeting ended with hymns and prayers.

Neva Rose Rainey of Rochester and Paul C. Snodgrass of New Martinsville were married Saturday July 2 1988 at Simcoe United Church Parsonage Oshawa. Rev Anton officiated. Attendants were Mr and Mrs W B Hoar. They plan to reside in Rochester after a trip to New Martinsville.

Midland Regimental Band Opens Rainy Concert Series

Promptly at 8 30 pm last Thursday the Midland Regimental Band opened its concert series with Maple Leaf. Despite rain a fine turnout enjoyed a well rendered programme as music sounded well from the new band stand.

W M S Meeting Reviews Racial Brotherhood Theme

The Women's Missionary Society met at Park Street Church in the Sunday School room with President Miss Davy chairing. A program followed including piano duets by Ouard and Anna Staiples and a vocal duet by Jean and Gerald Rainey, then a discussion on racial brotherhood. An August picnic is planned with Supmakers entertaining the Mission Band and Baby Band with their mothers.
