Marie Lewis daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Lewis received the Gold Card the highest guide award presented by Division Commissioner Mrs Frank at a Bowmanville Guide meeting. Piano Recital At Orono Showcases Fifty Two Pupils
Fifty two piano pupils of Mrs. W. E. C. Workman performed at the Orono United Church Sunday School Auditorium on Thursday evening June 11. Pupils from Bowmanville Newcastle Kendal and surrounding districts played solo numbers each introducing their piece. The event featured Master of Ceremonies Mr. Workman and a certificate presentation for Kelly Kirby Kindergarten. Refreshments followed for all attendees.

Mill Dam Demolished in Orono for New Construction
The Royal Canadian Engineers levelled the remaining Mill dam and bridge south of Orono as part of a reforestation project. Seventy men participated, many first demolition tasks, with nearby houses evacuated for blast safety. Reconstruction is planned for late July or August, possibly a bridge or a combined road and dam.

Attendance And Taxes To Rise In S S 12 For 1953
At the pre term registration for Orono Public School pupils starting first year a record twenty children registered, up from nineteen in 1952. Enrollment rose from ninety in 1951 to one hundred two in 1952 and projected to one hundred twelve to fourteen in September 1953. The School Trustees set a twelve mill rate for 8.8. No. 12 purposes, raising taxes from last year to fund salaries and lighting upgrades.
