Orono Chamber Plans Evening Band Concerts All Summer

Bowmanville and Orono plans group band events with a concert on alternate Saturdays. Porter reports interview confirms band will play for 10 dollars per night during summer, stand location debates, town hall steps platform proposed, 25 dollar cost, Miller to collect expenses. Hydro figures and Orange Lodge activities plus a Newcastle Players concert and town decorations noted.

Newcastle Triumphs After Four Losses In Season Opener

Newcastle defeated Port Hope 5 to 4 to claim its first win of the season. Bill Brunt and Brockenshire pitched for Newcastle while Phillips doubled and Hudson singled for Port Hope. Walton and Graham drove in runs for Newcastle, with Brunt solid through six innings before Mott finished.

Honors to Durham Holstein Club Picnic at Peterboro

The Durham County Holstein Club held its annual picnic in Peterboro on Wednesday and Thursday last week. Carlos Tamblyn won first prize in judging three stock classes and received a bag of dairy concentrate. Mrs Carlos Ekiven won first prize in the ladies class for judging and took five pounds of butter. Donald Jose of Newcastle James T. Brown of Bowmanville and Mr Muir and Mr Millson of Darlington also won prizes. Durham County represented well and captured the majority of prizes.

Cooking School at Park Street United Church Draws Many Women

The Cooking School sponsored by the W.M.S. of Park Street United Church and demonstrated by Mof fatt's Limited in the church basement drew large crowds on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. Miss Small led expert demonstrations of enticing menus, with lucky numbers drawn and dishes taken home by attendees.

Returns To Boyhood Scenes After 48 Years Absence

Gon of Vancouver and sister Miss Libby Simpson of Peterboro visited Leskard to review old scenes and renew acquaintances after 48 years. Edward Simpson recalled landmarks, the school and church, the mill ponds, the flag pole at the school, and a 1910s essay winner. They planned to attend the Leskard Festival and meet old friends.

Forestry Beats Orono In High-Scoring Softball Clash

Forestry defeated Orono 19 to 18 after a back-and-forth contest. Sunny Woods homer twice, Myles and Crono contributed, and Majors sealed the win for Forestry with a homer in the final frame.

Wilfrid Heighington to Speak at Bowmanville Sunday

The Mission Band concert followed by a guest lecture featured the Bowmanville program on June 10 at Park Street United Church. Local children performed a sequence of choruses solos recitations and duets with highlights including Gold Medalist Marjorie Chatterton and Slide lecture by Rev. J H Osterhout.

Women’s Association Meets at Park St United Church

The Wo men’s Association of Park Street Unit held its regular meeting Tuesday at 2 p.m. In the president’s absence the district vice officiated. Final strawberry festival plans were set for June 28 and members were urged to bring cake pie tarts bread and butter.
