Orono weekly notes Ontario increases suspension thresholds from 12 to 15 points and adds new point makers. The plan includes seven point penalties after a first suspension and tougher fines for speeding and tailgating as police expand patrols to deter accidents and violations.
Peterborough harness racing drew a solid crowd as local entrants competed in eight heats. Happy Babe, driven by Junior West, placed third in heat one and won heat two in 2.19 4-5, with a strong opening pace. Happy Mac, owned by Jack Williams, finished third in both heats shown, while Jack Reid’s London stable saw Frank's LaSalle win a 2.11.1 feature and Hollywood, Flash Riddell, Meadowview Champ posting top finishes as the Reid stable heads to Orono pending Woodbine reopens.
Masten Gregory, a 30 year old American from Paris, drove a Lotus 19 to victory in the 80 lap Players 200 at Mosport. He finished in 2 hours 10 minutes 36 seconds as Dan Gurney and Roger Penske traded leads and misfortune struck several front runners.
The youngsters draw about forty players forming two groups. Marvin Lunn and Mr. Black coach the Pee Wee team, planning exhibition games with potential CBA playdowns. A younger group, led by Paul Rutherford and Bill Bunting, will face Newcastle and Bowmanville, with seven year olds already playing. The Crono Tykes travel to Greene for a return game, venue to be Oreno Park or Public School grounds.
