Orono Hardball Team Opens Season With Win At Home
Orono defeats Kendal 18 to 8 in the revived local hardball game played on Orono’s diamond last Thursday evening. Carman Cornish started on the mound for Orono, holding Kendal to few hits through three innings, while Roy Glass led Kendal’s offense with late scoring in the fifth. The crowd near 200 watched as Orono pulled away with timely hitting and strong defense before darkness ended the game.

Ontario farmers are urged to combat Late Blight in 1946 with seedbed protection and field spraying or dusting using fixed copper compounds. Apply thoroughly, cover undersides, and space rows 6 feet apart with plants 2 to 4 feet apart. Begin when first true leaves form, repeat every 7 to 10 days, and stop 8 to 4 days before field planting. Jersey show at Whitby yields grand championship
Ten breeders paired with ninety seven Jersey cattle at the Ontario and Durham Counties Parish Show in Whitby Park on Saturday. Dr W W Sherwin and WM Staples were well represented as the bull Eidgelea Basil Butterboy, formerly owned by Sherwin and recently sold, captured the grand championship for the second time in a week. The first heifer raised by Sherwin won first prize in the five year old cow in milk, now owned by R Stenger of Enniskillen. The two oldest calves from the bull, shown by Stenger and M W Stapies, took first and third in a class of nineteen.
