Car Recovered In Ditch After Theft At Bowmanville Home

A Chevrolet was stolen from Mrs. J. H. H. Jury of Bowmanville during the weekend by breaking a garage window and forcing the lock. The vehicle was later found in a ditch six miles north of Whitby with an empty gas tank.

Grand Lodge of Ontario Oddfellows Meet in Toronto

The Annual Session of the Grand Lodge of Ontario of the Independent Order of Oddfellows convenes at the King Edward Hotel Toronto from Monday June 15 to Friday 19. Representatives from every Ontario lodge attend with W J Riddell chosen from Orono Lodge to join the committee on the State of the Order. The Grand Body opens Thursday at 9 am with planned legislation and a dance and novelty show scheduled in the Crystal ballroom.

Scouts and Guides Field Day at Orono Fair Grounds

Orono hosts a Scouts and Guides field day on Saturday afternoon June 13 starting 1 30 p m at the fair grounds weather permitting in the agricultural building events include athletic contests obstacle races and a bicycle race admission 25 cents for adults 10 cents for children proceeds benefit war work and attendance is urged. A note quotes strong anti Japanese sentiment urging their removal from Canada.

West Durham Womens Institutes Elect Officers At Tyrone Meeting

Delegates from West Durham Women s Institutes met at Tyrone United Church on May 28 for district convention. Registration ran from 9 15 am to 4 30 pm with high interest in war work. Officers were elected led by President Mrs L J Goodman Tyrone and Vice Presidents Mrs W Jones Clarke and Mrs Roy Mercer. Auditors were Miss L Reynolds and Mrs W W Horn.

Mrs Milburn, 100, Dies in Smith Township

Mrs Jos Milburn died at her home on the Chemong Road north of Peterboro in Smith Township on Sunday. She observed her 100th birthday on April 2 this year. She was a daughter of the late John Edmison and Margaret Hall and an aunt of former United Church minister Rev A K Edmison.
