Orono hosts fourteenth annual Children's Musical Festival

The fourteenth annual Children's Musical Festival was held at Otogo Town Hall on Friday evening. The event showcased Orono and area pupils under Mrs. Donald Robb with a varied program including anthems, choral pieces, solos, recitations, and a tricks finale by Mr. Wrage.

Canada to rely on U S coal as winter supply tightens

Canadian coal control authorities say that despite a need for about 1 million extra tons to replace oil for home heating, no Welsh coal will reach the Dominion this year. Most domestic coal will come from the United States, with limited lake freighter space and rail transport for anthracite. Authorities insist there is no coal panic and plans to ensure household fuel reach Canada are under way.

Clarke Township Council Pays 354 In Sheep Claims

The Clarke Township Council met in Orono at the town hall, reviewed minutes, and confirmed the assessment roll after a Court of Revision. A serious discussion on sheep and cattle killings followed. total payouts this month include 354 for damage by dogs and numerous bills from residents and officials.

Ten Young Ladies Donate to British W W F Quilt Draw

A group called The Bambers from Newcastle and district created a quilt sold tickets raising 67.00 for the British War Victims' Fund. The draw occurred Friday night at a Newcastle dance. the winning ticket was held by a man from Oshawa. Keep the good work up, girls.

Children’s Anniversary Services At Park Street Church

Park Street Church Orono hosted a well attended children’s anniversary on May 31 with 150 plus Sunday School scholars. The day featured graduation exercises, choruses, solos and a trio with piano accompaniment, led by Mrs. Drummond and Miss Audrey Billings.

Hope township ratepayers vote to enter school area

Ratepayers of S.S. No. 11 Hope township voted 11 for and 5 against to form a township school area. Trustees then instructed secretary James Dixon to notify the township council of the decision.

No Serious Shortage Of Beef Anticipated
