Boy Crushed To Death In Kendal Car Crash
A 14 year old boy, Lawrence Jacobs of Bowmanville, died when the tar running-board he rode on rolled over during a late night return from a fishing trip near Kendal in Clarke Township. Driver Howard Hallman, 28, was charged with drunken driving and later released on bail. The accident occurred as Jacobs stepped onto the running board during a sharp turn near a culvert.

Toronto Girl Drowns At Bowmanville Beach
Maureen Cunningham a nine year old from Toronto drowned off the Bowmanville Beach pier in six feet of water while trying to teach another girl to swim. Onlookers heard her cry for help but could not reach her in time. Joe Dilling and his son Rance recovered the body with a grappling hook. Doctors Ferguson and Rundle attempted resuscitation for hours without success.
